Don't poke the bear
[Read the article: Putin's dangerous power politics]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The U.S. and the west has been poking Russia with sticks for years now. It is quite amazing.
Look, Russia is not the USSR anymore but they have a lot of pride. When they un-mothballed their turboprop bombers, the message couldn't be more clear: cut the shit.
Russia would be a really important ally to the U.S. if they were treated with more respect.
This east vs. west crap was over in Rocky IV. Why are we bringing it back?

Time to watch Red Dawn again..
[Read the article: Salon Radio: Professor Charles King on Russia/Georgia]
[Read more letters about this article: Here].. or Rocky IV.
Seriously, why is this conflict portrayed in the media as east vs. west again?
Notice when Israel invaded Lebanon a couple years ago, Israel was portrayed as the victim, even though all that happened was two soldiers were kidnapped. (The rockets came later).
Georgia killed some innocents, Russia overreacted. Just like they had planned to do all along.
And just like Israel planned to do all along.

The Saakashvili factor
[Read the article: Putin's war enablers: Bush and Cheney]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is he the dumbest guy ever? What did he think was going to happen?
Nobody seems to want to talk about the possibility of ethnic cleansing perpetrated by Saakashvili. If true, and verified, then he is to blame. SOMETHING happened, it is obvious.
Saakashvili has said a lot of stuff lately that shows he is a loose cannon, at the very least. I don't think the U.S. should be cheering him on.

Ain't gonna happen..
[Read the article: GOP: Here's to Hillary's big party!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I bash the Clintons when they deserve it, but I thought Hillary's concession speech was pretty gracious. So I'm not gonna ascribe any evil intent 'till I see the proof.
Keep in mind that some of the crap in the campaign probably came from people like Mark Penn. She should have trusted her own judgment rather than listening to that moron. That's the real lesson, I think.

Biden is America, warts and all
[Read the article: If we must discuss plagiarism, let's talk exorcism too]
[Read more letters about this article: Here].. true dat.
Its amazing how naive many are that they would worry about some alleged law school plagiarism. How about Mccain cheating on his wife? How about the Keating 5. How about Clinton cheating and lying on national tv? How about Hillary's Bosnia distortion?
People are missing the forest for the trees.
You tools. You're fiddling (with yourselves) while Rome burns.
What matters is what people actually do while in office. Thats number 1, 2, and 3.

Respect is deserved
[Read the article: Hail and farewell]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hillary handled herself very well, and likely increased her political capital quite a bit by the graceful way she ended the campaign.
Now I'll let you in on a dirty little secret.
One big reason Obama won is because his supporters contributed more, earlier, in his campaign.
There are several people I've talked to who supported Clinton, whined when she lost, yet didn't give a dime to her campaign.
I contributed $200 to Obama almost 18 months ago.
If you don't contribute, don't be surprised if your candidate loses.
Sorry, but we ain't really living in a democracy. Haven't you noticed?

Palin is only 44..
[Read the article: McCain's Palin pick is the epitome of tokenism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Unfortunately, it doesn't make Mccain any younger.
He needs a younger woman, to remind him how many houses he has. And the difference between Iran and Iraq.
Hey McCain, did you hear about this new thing called the internets?
-
@crazylarry
[Read the article: How to build a vast left-wing conspiracy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You're one to talk.
Wasn't it you guys who did all kinds of sleazy attacks on McCain back in 2000 to get Bush elected? Something about him fathering an illegitimate black child?
Cowards.
The only reason you've adopted him now is because that's the only chance in hell you have to cling to power.
Everyone knows McCain has little to do with the republican party. Thats now his only chance.

The wrong side of history
[Read the article: John McCain, Republican top gun at last ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I like John McCain. I actually thought his speech was one of the best, in how it invoked patriotism and service to country.
Its just too little, too late. Eight years ago, the repubs beat this guy down, with some sleazy campaigning and attack ads. Now they have to live with the results.
McCain can't fly in and save them. Its a bigger game now.
The U.S. is sliding from its superpower status. How we handle that will determine our future.

Funny Stuff
[Read the article: Confessions of an RNC security guard]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]good observations, trivial yet not so.

Shame on you Gary!!!
[Read the article: The dominatrix]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]you naughty, naughty boy.

Bush was no fundamentalist.
[Read the article: What's the difference between Palin and Muslim fundamentalists? Lipstick]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If he was, we'd be in even deeper do-do.
We haven't seen a fundamentalist as president yet. When we do, watch out for a world war.
It will be deemed "Gods war".

Wait for the debates
[Read the article: How Democrats are fighting back against Sarah Palin]
[Read more letters about this article: Here].. that's when it most likely will be decided.
If Palin can win as commander-in-chief after barely traveling outside the country, my hat's off to her.
It ain't gonna matter too much. The country is in a state now where one man (or woman) can't make much difference by themselves.
my opinion.

Sexism
[Read the article: How Democrats are fighting back against Sarah Palin]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I personally think its sexism when a woman is always given credit and kudos for her family contributions, whereas a man, who makes the same contributions, gets no credit.
Of course, no one ever talks about that.

6String is right..
[Read the article: John McCain is connecting with voters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here].. The american voter chose Bush. And chose Bush again. You can't blame anyone but the person in the mirror for that.
And don't say that you didn't actually vote for Bush.
You participated in the divisive politics, you are still complaining about Bush rather than trying to get someone else elected, you are still crying about Hillary (like that matters now).
Don't cry about the past. Take your lumps and move on.
