The process rewards engagement
[Read the article: Obama's got ground game]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What I've learned, in the first political involvement of my life, is that people who are more engaged have more impact on the process.
People that are more passionate can affect things more. This can be good or bad. But if you are passionate about a candidate, it makes a big impact. We have personally changed about 10 votes from Clinton to Obama, just by letting people know what he is about. We've found that most people make their decisions for totally dumb reasons, and if you give them just a little information, it will change their vote.
Its been kinda amazing to see the same thing happening on a nationwide scale.

Its far from over
[Read the article: Hillary Clinton makes her stand in Ohio]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Clinton has a very good chance of taking three states tomorrow. After that, pundits will talk a bunch of crap about "shifting momentum".
Bottom line is, its far from over. I wouldn't mind if Clinton wins. Americans voted for Bush, and Clinton is the next best thing.
I voted for Obama, but he is talking about an America that doesn't exist anymore.
Lets get real. The Iraq war wasn't an anomaly. Its who we are. A slowly fading empire, remembering past glory.

The government's #1 job...
[Read the article: The cold price of hot blood]
[Read more letters about this article: Here].. is to spend our money. Hopefully they spend it wisely.
I just don't like it when they spend my kid's money.
I'm starting to realize that there are other countries in the world. Might be nice to live in one of them. Something tells me this ship is going down.

America gets what it deserves
[Read the article: The "Rezko" game]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is it any wonder, when we celebrate celebrity culture, scandal-driven media, view bullying as a sign of strength, power and wealth as indicators of intelligence, that we elect candidates based on the same?
Democrats are no better. They also don't want to get confused by the "facts".

Its good for the country..
[Read the article: Let 'em duke it out]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]..that people are having these debates. Too many times voters make knee-jerk reactions, without investigating the candidates.
Once the candidate is decided, a lot of this will be forgotten and people will move on.
I personally feel that it will help Obama. Only a candidate of substance will be able to fight and survive a long struggle, without resorting to sliming.
And if either candidate resorts to slime to win, then that is a reflection on Americans. They will get what they deserve. As they have in the past.

The wrong reason to vote
[Read the article: Let 'em duke it out]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is to vote for a candidate because you think they can beat the Republicans.
If the dems can't beat the repubs after 8 years of Bush, regardless of the candidates, they need to go into the woods and shoot themselves.

I've been waiting for this..
[Read the article: I don't believe in atheists]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Its about time someone pointed out that atheists are not immune to some of the same moral and logical pitfalls that so often plague religious fanatics.
Atheism is only a lack of belief in God. It does not by itself provide a moral framework.
Hitchens is a funny guy though.

The real war crime
[Read the article: Will American war crimes be revealed?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]is that a country was irreparably damaged for the sake of revenge for 9/11.
This is a fact that we are beginning to come to grips with.
P.S. Iraq ain't doing so well either.

My opinion of Congress just went up a couple of points
[Read the article: House Democrats reject telecom amnesty, warrantless surveillance]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Better late than never, I guess
But not much better.

The problem is cat owners
[Read the article: The cat whisperer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Many cat owners think that if they provide any behavior controls to their cats, this somehow restricts their "freedom to be a cat" , and crap like that. This goes as far as letting their cats roam the neighborhood, kill songbirds, and the like, because "that is what cats naturally do".
Of course, cats take full advantage of it. Wouldn't you?
People comment on the pleasant personalities of our two cats. I don't think it is completely by accident. They also get along brilliantly with our dog, which dispels another myth.

One minor point..
[Read the article: What can and cannot be spoken on television]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The destruction of Iraq did not begin with George Bush. It has been going on for decades, with George Bush I, Bill Clinton (remember Albright's response to .5 million dead children "the price is worth it), and continues today.
And it is not only the U.S. involved, when the U.N. endorses these things.
After the Holocaust, we said never again. But we didn't really mean it. Arabs are the new Jews.

This didn't start with Bush
[Read the article: Taking stock of the war on terror]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"The problem the administration faced, or rather didn't want to face, was that the calcified order that lay at the root of the problem was the very order that, for nearly six decades, had been shaped, shepherded and sustained by the United States."
Exactly.
Hell, no one wants to face this. Look at what Bush I did in iraq (bombing out infrastructure), and Clinton, (sanctions that lead to hundreds of thousands of deaths).
While at the same time the US. supported Saddam in the Iran-Iraq war.
Its truly mind-boggling. And yes, sad. When we took out Saddam, we just took out the middle-man.

Invest in sandals
[Read the article: Peak oil? Consider it solved]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And also, buy a donkey. Jesus didn't need no SUV.

We are not fighting a war in Iraq
[Read the article: The Iran boogeyman is back]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]We should be rebuilding the country. As long as we use only a military approach in Iraq, we will need to find someone to fight. We need to find a way to use our smart bombs and drones and stealth technology.
I really can't blame Petraeus for his position. He is a military guy. That tends to limit one's focus.
When I was in ROTC, we didn't study how to provide clean water, and health and transportation. We studied military tactics and learned how to throw grenades.

Fine, but I wouldn't call it sexism..
[Read the article: Hey, Obama boys: Back off already!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Its just stereotyping of candidates by their opponent's supporters. Its like calling Bush stupid, or calling Gore stiff, or calling Kerry (or Obama) elitist and out-of-touch. Isn't that what Fox news and others do (surrender monkeys, traitors, tax-and-spend liberals, etc).
Mostly it is avoiding the real issues.
But in this case, it is dangerous to argue that men who don't like Hillary (for any reason) are sexist, without further evidence. I can just as well argue that white people who don't like Obama are racists. Could it be that Obama just doesn't appeal to them? Ain't nothing wrong with that.

You forgot one thing..
[Read the article: What every freelancer should know]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]the excitement of driving across town at 11:30 to the one post-office that is still open, and then staying up for another three hours basking in the afterglow, because you made the deadline.
