DAY OF WRATH was the first film I ever saw that made me think of the cinema as an art form. That was over 45 years ago, and I still think it's one of the handful of greatest films ever made.

Garrison, thanks for seeing through the "mind-forged manacles" of so much of the Eastern and Midwestern press. There is definitely something good going on here in L.A., along with all the yadda-yadda bad things everyone knows about. I salute you for your open and inquiring mind!
Lauritsen's book on Mary Shelley fails one important test. Mary Shelley wrote some really great stuff well after Percy Bysshe died. THE LAST MAN, for example, is IMHO far better than FRANKENSTEIN. (Unless Percy's ghost was dictating it all to her.)
Whatever her education was, her mother was Mary Wollstonecraft, no mean writer herself. The girl had it in her genes to write, and I think she deserves credit for doing so.

I think the author of the review must have meant Petrarch, who did write famous sonnets. Plutarch was known primarily for his lives of ancient Greeks and Romans.
