  • Another Week, More Psycho-babble

[Read the article: Bush's stairway to paradise]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Two weeks ago, Sydney Blumenthal declared that “Bush knew Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction”.

Today, quoting Draper; ""Though it was not the sort of thing one could say publicly anymore, the president still believed that Saddam had possessed weapons of mass destruction. He repeated this conviction to Andy Card all the way up until Card's departure in April 2006, almost exactly three years after the Coalition had begun its fruitless search for WMDs."

So which is it Sydney? When are you going to invent the third version? Got any more psycho-babble for us?

I guess there is no point in asking these questions, truth is not something you can expect from Sydney Blumenthal. Several former Clinton girlfriends can attest to that. They know what it’s like to be smeared by Syd.

It is ironic to read Sydney disparage Newt Gingrich for engaging in “polarization” and “personal attacks”. That is what Sydney does for a living. Both now, and when he worked for Clinton. I guess we need to cross integrity off the list of Sydney’s attributes.

So why does he do it?

    Is it the money?

Does he want a job with Hillary? (the one who said Al Qaeda was tied to Saddam).

God help us if Sydney Blumenthal is ever again given the ear of an elected official.

    @had_enough

Two weeks ago Blumenthal said that Bush knew there were no WMD. This was the basis of an article suggesting that Bush made up the WMD story in order to justify the war. Blumenthal was suggesting that Bush “knew” it to be a lie. Others have suggested that Blumey structured this argument in such a way as to absolve others of any misjudgment. Such as Hillary, a potential future employer of Blumey.

This week, in order to support his psycho-babble of the week profile of Bush, Blumey quotes an author who states that Bush believed that Saddam had WMD.

Those are contradictory premises. The first used in Blumey’s Sept 6 column. The second used today.

I am pointing out the inconsistency in Blumey’s arguments.

    Directly.

Joe Conason discusses the suppression of protest and free speech. He suggests that Bush has greatly diminished our free speech, and pimps his upcoming book in the process.

The notion that this tactic is uniquely right wing is wrong. It is easily disproven. Whether or not Joe can see that, whether or not Joe cares, I can't be sure. Either he has tunnel vision, or he's just a shill.

What is certain, is that if the rules governing speech and protest are selectively applied, we have major problems.

If you're going to demand more access, more ability to protest, you better demand it of all politicians, representing all points of view.

I can understand opposition to Bush, and to the Iraq war.

I can't understand the sympathetic treatment, and the benefit of the doubt, given Iran.

Some of the salonista's here need to begin reading alternative views. Your hatred of Bush is blinding you.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for pointing out the speculative nature of 3 of the 4 links I provided. I was more careful this time.

I also appreciate your agreement with of 1 of those links, which refutes slayer's notion that Iranian support of Iraqi insurgents is unproven.

Ahmadinejad is the one who is responsible for demonizing Ahmadinejad.
