Alright, I give up. New rules kennedy didn’t improve anyone’s lives, they’d be better off dead.
For what it’s worth, if you write-in “NotOrbitBoy” on your ballot this fall, I will work to abolish capital punishment.
So you “know” that there are innocent detainees being held in Gauntanamo? Your willingness to accept that as fact affirms the worst fears of those that are critical of this stupid ruling by dumb kennedy.
When civilian courts of the United States determine if someone can be held in gitmo, what will they base their decision on?
Guess we’re gonna have to send some troops back to Afgahnistan to collect finger prints…after they’ve completed their course work in police science.
holly
I wasn’t trying to liken dodd to the terrorists; he couldn’t survive in a cave.
I was likening the disbelief that dodd got a freebee to the disbelief that the terrorists in gitmo are terrorists.
reilly
Fair enough. Unfortunately, the concept of “loser pays” is one that trial lawyers strongly oppose. Democrats tend to oppose the concept, and pretty much any and all tort reform. Trial lawyers want the deck stacked in their favor, hence my low opinion of the ambulance chasers among them.

@L.W.M.
[Read the article: Chris Dodd's speech and a glimmer of hope for stopping the FISA bill]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Brilliant.
Well reasoned counter argument.
You must be a philosopher, former honor student of the ethics professor.

@P. Dirksy
[Read the article: Chris Dodd's speech and a glimmer of hope for stopping the FISA bill]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If you are implying that the word terrorist is used loosely and inconsistently, I agree with you.
Maybe I should have used islamofascists.
What are we gonna do next, debate the meaning of "is"?

@silash - what is proof?
[Read the article: Chris Dodd's speech and a glimmer of hope for stopping the FISA bill]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm going back several pages with this one siley.
You quoted an attorney representing some gitmo detainees, and offer that as proof of their innocence.
Wow, you must have a clue or something.
1. I thought gitmo detainees never get lawyers (that comes from about 10 thousand previous salonista rants).
2. If your ridiculous "proof" were used in our courts, the prisons would be empty.

Re:Re: what is proof?
[Read the article: Chris Dodd's speech and a glimmer of hope for stopping the FISA bill]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Agreed.
Silash offered no proof of his declaration that there are innocents currently being held in gitmo.

Bingo.
[Read the article: Keith Olbermann: Then and now]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Those who spent the last five years mauling Bush for "shredding the Constitution" and approving of lawbreaking -- only to then praise Obama for supporting a bill that endorses and protects all of that -- are displaying exactly the type of blind reverence that is more dangerous than any one political leader could ever be."
That's got to be the truest thing you ever wrote.

Bingo. Part II
[Read the article: Keith Olbermann: Then and now]

olderman's failings
[Read the article: Keith Olbermann's reply and Obama's secret plan to protect the rule of law]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The problem with keith olderman is not the positions he takes (which I typically disagree with), the problem is; he is an arrogant pompous wind-bag, who just doesn't know it.
Keith quotes provide by Glenn;
"John Dean is the smartest person I've ever met"...That goes a long way in explaining keith's ignorance.
"John Dean is worth 25 Glenn Greenwalds "...So much for "all men are created equal".
Glenn asks;
"How can Olbermann accuse me of distorting his commentary and deny that he's rationalizing Obama's support for the bill and then write the above -- which does nothing but justify Obama's support for the bill?"
Answer: Because he is a pompous wind bag.
Although you may agree with olderman on most issues, and get that warm fuzzy feeling when he slams Bush, many of those arguments are just as dumb as his response to Glenn.
Glenn: Please provide more about obama's secret plan. It will help me build a conspiracy theory about obama's motives, and his association with the other dark sith lords...(I kind of swiped this idea from previous salonista posts).
...that felt good.
NotOrbitBoy for President.

Anti-science warning, containing no science
[Read the article: Anti-science conservatives must be stopped]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Lots of "we must..." proclamations in this piece.
Fear mongering at its finest.

Your conclusions ignores McCain's most exemplary act.
[Read the article: Wesley Clark boldly goes where few have gone before]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]During McCain's time as a POW he was offered an early release.
He refused that release, telling his captors that those who were taken prisoner before him should be released first.
I can't think of a better qualification for a president, than the willingness to put the concerns of others above one's self.
John McCain demonstrated a willingness to do that, like no other politician I have encountered.
Wesley and this author take a very narrow view of McCain's service. An ignorant one, I will add.
Please keep it up, wesley, and salon. Show the world who you truly are.

@Ren. Icon and @Grubert
[Read the article: Wesley Clark boldly goes where few have gone before]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You guys need to get out more. . . out of the salon black hole.
The story of McCains refusal of any early release is sourced from many places. Most notably, his cell mates, many of whom did the same.
Grubert, these are for you.

@Timelagged
[Read the article: Wesley Clark boldly goes where few have gone before]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks for noting Bush's selflessness.
The exactly opposite trait that most salonistas accuse him of holding.
-
@Timelagged - addendum
[Read the article: Wesley Clark boldly goes where few have gone before]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Ahh, you don't know what you know.
I agree with that.
