Sarah Palin was selected, in part, due to her practical knowledge of the internal workings of the "energy machine". She knew how to beat it, how to negotiate against it, how to win for her people. Also, she conquered corruption in her state and within her own party. Are there any other governors, senators, or congressmen who have accomplished this? After 36 years in the Senate, what does Joe Biden offer up, other than tenure?
It did help that she was a woman; however, she has accomplished much in a short period of time. And the media, the liberals, and her campaign handlers hated her for it!
Joe, did you really write "...after the era of stagnation under Reagan and Bush..."? Jimmy Carter, for whom I voted in 1976, left us with 12% unemployment, 21% mortgagte rates, and an occupied US Embassy in Tehran. And the US economy rallied under Reagan, growth was unprecedented, and the hostages were released. Bush 41 drove Sadaam Hussein out of Kuwait, and we were strong militarily. But, in those days, we didn't have Harry Reid waiving the white flag of surrender!
In 1992, Bill Clinton ran on a platform of lowering taxes, then promptly raised them. Hillary's "healthcare plan" had more pages than the Beijing phone book, and American voters saw the error of their ways. The "...historic Republican victory in the 1994 congressional midterm election" ushered in the "Contract With America" which righted the economy. To this day, Bill Clinton attempts to claim credit for this great movement, which actually "thwarted" his plans. By The Way, I was born and raised in Arkansas, and never voted for Bill!
Sean Hannity was right when he stated that this is the end of journalism as we know it. Salon.com is becoming The National Inquirer -- except the Inquirer now knows what investigative journalism is about.
But you didn't answer my question! You were asked to defend your indefensible position, so you asked irrelevant questions instead! Is that a move you learned from Barack Hussein Obama? He "dodged the question" last night by diverting questions regarding his support for abortion on demand and partial-birth abortion to "reducing unwanted pregnancies." Rick Warren supports Biblical views, which are also supported by Hippocrates, and any other responsible physician. The AMA requires physicians to take the Hippocratic Oath, then allows abortion on demand. So please, don't insult MY intelligence by stating AMA support for abortion on demand. By the way, in addressing your defense tactics, I must admit that many of your questions are appropriate. The Bible allows Christians signficant latitude in their behavior, provided that behavior does not clearly, unquestionably violate any of God's commandmants. Homosexuality and abortion on demand are two activities that do violate God's commandments. For the record, I did enjoy reading your article. It was thought-provoking, and addressed some of the issues which we face in this critical, world-shaping decision American voters will be making in approximately 10 weeks.
Laugh, "and be merry," if you wish, but please read Luke 12:13-21. I, along with millions of other born-again believers, do take this seriously! If you don't have a Bible, you can visit one of these "fast-food" churches. I'm sure they will give you one, and will spend their time sharing the Word of God with you. They will pray for you, pray with you, and share your burdens.
"...Warren has made no secret of his extreme views on abortion and gay rights..." this is not Rick Warren's view at all. Ms. Walsh, you are an excellent reporter, so please, get your facts straight! The Bible, in any version you choose, condemns both homosexuality and abortion. This is God's view! And, speaking of abortion, "... I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy. In purity and holiness I will guard my life and my art." [excerpt from The Hippocratic Oath]. This is the view of Hippocrates, the father of medicine. Your attack on Rick Warren is actually an attack on God and Hippocrates ... are you sure you want to match wits with these two?
