Would someone please turn the time machine on?

So we can fast forward to November 2012 and vote this spineless, ineffective, twit out of the White House.

(By the way, my opinion of Obama recently sunk to a new low [didn't think that was possible] when I saw a TV ad in which he hawks a new late-night talk show hosted by George Lopez. In the cringe-inducing ad, Obama actually lampoons his "change we can believe in" slogan. Unbelievable. Guess the joke's really on us for believing that he was actually going to try to change substantive things.]

Frank Reynolds v. Harry Reasoner

I think there's a mistake in this piece. Ms. Williams writes: "In 1976, Barbara Walters became the first female network anchor -- and the highest-paid journalist in America -- when she started sharing the desk with Frank Reynolds." I believe that Barbara Walters shared the desk with Harry Reasoner, not Frank Reynolds.

With respect to Diane Sawyer, she's soul-less and insincere, but aren't all TV news types that way now?

When the people's revolution finally occurs . . . .

Wal-Mart should be the first company that's turned over to the workers while its management is imprisoned for their crimes against the people. That company just makes my skin crawl.

Susan Boyle is amazing

She's given us a haunting version of "Wild Horses." Anyone who likes her rendition should also check out the version by The Sundays--it's pretty amazing too.

Texas

Another (truly tragic) reason for the U.S. to kick Texas out of our nation. Texas would be much better on its own. And the rest of us could stop being embarrassed by that odious, backward state.

So, what this moron is saying is . . . .

that guaranteeing "individual rights and liberties" actually destroys "individual rights and liberties." Who is this illogical hayseed?

Original article: Oh, those wacky Democrats

Absolutely hilarious

But also tragically and depressingly true.

loved the article's use of a bit of the language from the Sandburg poem:

CHICAGO

Hog Butcher for the World,

Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat,

Player with Railroads and the Nation's Freight Handler;

Stormy, husky, brawling,

City of the Big Shoulders:

They tell me you are wicked and I believe them, for I

have seen your painted women under the gas lamps

luring the farm boys.

And they tell me you are crooked and I answer: Yes, it

is true I have seen the gunman kill and go free to

kill again.

And they tell me you are brutal and my reply is: On the

faces of women and children I have seen the marks

of wanton hunger.

And having answered so I turn once more to those who

sneer at this my city, and I give them back the sneer

and say to them:

Come and show me another city with lifted head singing

so proud to be alive and coarse and strong and cunning.

Flinging magnetic curses amid the toil of piling job on

job, here is a tall bold slugger set vivid against the

little soft cities;

Fierce as a dog with tongue lapping for action, cunning

as a savage pitted against the wilderness,

Bareheaded,

Shoveling,

Wrecking,

Planning,

Building, breaking, rebuilding,

Under the smoke, dust all over his mouth, laughing with

white teeth,

Under the terrible burden of destiny laughing as a young

man laughs,

Laughing even as an ignorant fighter laughs who has

never lost a battle,

Bragging and laughing that under his wrist is the pulse.

and under his ribs the heart of the people,

Laughing!

Laughing the stormy, husky, brawling laughter of

Youth, half-naked, sweating, proud to be Hog

Butcher, Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat, Player with

Railroads and Freight Handler to the Nation.

Why do the banks get direct infusions of money

but the American people don't? Yeah, let's have a new WPA that'll create jobs for people and that'll bolster our infrastructure, as Mr. Reich describes. But let's also have a direct cash infusion (i.e., a "bailout") for the people.

Do-nothing president

At this point haven't we all accepted the the fact that Obama is going to be a do-nothing president--not only on issues of GLBT equality but also on all other important issues facing the US and the rest of the world? Yeah, he'll make some great speeches and will take some pretty cool vacations, but I think we all know in our heart of hearts that he's not going to accomplish anything while he's in office.

"A call to action"?

Obama, your being elected to be the president of the US was "a call to action." The fact that there are millions of Americans living in poverty is a "call to action." The fact that global climate change is going unchecked is a "call to action." The fact that Gitmo and the war in Iraq and the war in Afghanistan still exist is a "call to action" The fact that torturers are going unpunished is a "call to action." The fact that millions of Americans are still legally discriminated against because of their sexual orientation is a "call to action." The fact that millions of Americans are losing their homes is a "call to action." The fact that millions of Americans are unemployed and millions more have inadequate health insurance is a "call to action." YOU'VE HAD NUMEROUS CALLS TO ACTION, DUDE. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING?
