Seriously. What the hell are you waiting for before you do the right thing on full equality for gay and lesbian Americans? Please prove to us that you're something other than a complete douche. I dare you. Show us some "change we can believe in." We're waiting for you to lead, to improve things, to show some integrity. So far, you're just a complete disappointment. Do something, damnit!
So much for "change we can believe in."
As a former Mormon, I can tell you that the Mormon church is one of the greatest forces of evil and hatred in the world. This web series is just another feeble attempt by the church to present itself as a benign organization. Nothing could be further from the truth.
I wonder if Obama would consider it "prejudice" for him to advocate that Jews can't get married in the traditional sense, but they could have the option of entering into civil unions. When will this idiot of a president realize that his unwillingness to treat gay and lesbian people with equality completely undermines his ability to speak without hypocrisy about things like justice and empathy and tolerance?
I think it's impossible to "psychologically rape" someone who has no psyche.
Obama breaking a promise and failing to stand up for gay and lesbian people--shocking, absolutely shocking! What's next? Failing to close Gitmo? Failing to stop the war in Iraq? Failing to end Bush-era wiretapping? Oh, wait a minute . . . . (But he makes some damn fine speeches and takes some nice vacations, huh?)
Insightful and important. Sincere thanks, Mr. Lind.
This assassination is an utter tragedy! My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Dr. Tiller. He was a brave man of uncommon integrity. If I had any doubts that the right-wing extremists in the U.S. are ruthless terrorists, this incident removes all those doubts. I hope the U.S. government will use all of its anti-terror-fighting tools and authority to capture and punish this terrorist group.
I feel so blessed to live in the USofA, where the newspapers are paragons of integrity and of honest and accurate and unblemished reporting!
Isn't Obama just as culpable as these 13 torture facilitators if he doesn't require investigation, prosecution, and punishment of them?
His promises of "transparency" and "open government" were lies. He'll continue to disappoint those who thought he was, somehow, different. He's a self-serving, hypocrite who will never make the bold and courageous decisions that our nation needs in a president. We need to revolt.
He used us to help get him elected, but now he won't do anything to help us so that he can run for re-election and protect himself from attacks by Republicans. Obama's a tool and a toad, and I predict he'll go down in history as one of the biggest hypocrites to ever sit in the Oval Office.
when same-sex marriage is allowed and recognized throughout the U.S., this woman will be remembered, if at all, as a narrow-minded, bigoted, homophobe. She'll be the Anita Bryant of the 21st century: a laughingstock with a miserable, failed, hate-filled life. Rock on Miss Prejean!
I suspect that Joe the Plumber and that freaky homophobic Miss California are actually one and the same person. Joe's looking pretty good in those semi-nude photos, huh?
Harriet Miers is still available for nomination to the Supreme Court.
The Dalai Lama is just being polite. He's kind of like the Queen of England that way. Can you imagine either one of them actually saying in public what everyone knows is true: that George W. Bush is an evil douchebag? Never gonna happen.
You are a calm and welcome voice of reason. Thank you.
It needs gay and lesbian people; it needs its first Asian American; it needs a person who is differently abled; etc, etc, etc. If our goal, as Joan describes it, is to "make the court look more like America," putting another woman on the Court doesn't necessarily advance that goal. How about if we just seek to put the best legal minds on the Court regardless of their race or gender or other "minority" characteristics?
The U.S. should pass a law that prohibits the circumcision of any male under the age of 18. When a male turns 18, he can then decide for himself whether or not to be circumcised. The idea of allowing a parent to make the decision for his/her child on this kind of unnecessary, cosmetic, irreversible, intentionally disfiguring procedure is simply barbaric. Did you read the story of the man who is being sought on child abuse charges for having his 7-year-old son forcibly tattooed: http://www.momlogic.com/2009/04/dad_tattooed_7-year-old_with_gang_sign.php
How can our society oppose the forced tattooing of children, but not oppose the forcible genital mutilation of our boys?
Each and every day, Obama provides us with more evidence that he's a complete douche.
if Texas really does secede, it would be the nation with the most in-bred, under-educated, homophobic, racist, sexist, annoyingly-accented population in the world. Is there any way we could force them to secede . . . immediately?
I recently cancelled the two-week vacation I was going to take starting next week. Yeah, I've got savings that I was going to use (instead of my credit card). Yeah, I've still got my job (even after the company I work for laid off 10% of the employees). Yeah, my 401(k) has been relatively unscathed by the market collapse. But I canceled my vacation because I realized that I really wouldn't be able to enjoy myself in these dark times--not knowing whether, in a few months, I'd deeply regret not having the couple thousand dollars I was going to drop on this vacation; but also realizing that I couldn't enjoy the trip when there are so many, many people out there struggling financially on a daily basis. I'm by no means wealthy, but, for me, taking a vacation right now just seems like an insensitive thing to do from an inter-connectedness, karmic standpoint.
