  • Gross Generalization Alert! Gross Generalization Alert!

[Read the article: Sex after 50? Mais oui!]

I live in the South and let me just tell you there are an equal number of fat ol' men to schtup fat ol' woman. In fact, fat women get quite a bit of action down here....from fat and skinny men. And vice versa.

I wonder at Anonymous' comments about how picky women are in comparison to how relatively unpicky men are though; it smells like a gross generalization. Maybe that's true in urban settings, but I have friends down here, male and female, who seem to settle for poor, gross, rude, racist, and ignornant partners I wouldn't wipe my ass on. And they aren't very happy doing it, hence the high number of divorces, extramarital affairs (I mean it's an epidemic...) in my little bible belt city.

  • I'm really sick of anonymous and his racism

So what if blacks vote for Obama? Why wouldn't blacks be swayed by Obama's message of hope? It's something we need much more than most Americans. If you've ever been to the inner city, you'd know the level of hopelessness there. I don't think blacks will only vote for black canidates (then Jesse Jackson would have done better in 84) but Obama is 1) intelligent 2) has political experience 3) doesn't have the excess baggage of the Clinton years. I'm really offended too that you assume black people voting for Obama aren't informed and I think you're racism is rearing it's ugly head. We can read, we know how to go on the internet, and a lot of us in the south get the newspaper.

The truth is, anonymous, that people like you don't beleive black people vote for the canidate they like; they must be racist and only voting for by race. But in my Southern town when the whites all vote for their white canidate, they aren't racist. They're just picking the best canidate. A black canidate, by definition, can't be the best canidate. He must be there because of some sort of entitlement, or reverse racism, etc.

Look, before the primaries began, everyone said that Obama wouldn't get the black vote. He wasn't doing very well in the polls, and everyone said Clinton had that demographic locked up. I think it's just sour grapes that us darkies didn't get behind the party machine canidate like we should have.

You're right. I've been reading Salon for years (back when I was a San Francisco girl, when I was a LA girl and now that I'm a Southern woman) and I can't beleive how crazy the letters section has gotten recently. I mean, I've never seen so much overt racism on these pages as I've seen in the past few months. I don't really know if anonymous is actually racist, or is just using racism to stir shit up, but I suppose I should just be above it.

But I think it's time I ignore it. It's just really hard for me to sit back and read racists (and I guess I was getting a little offended that ya'll weren't attacking the comments) make nasty comments. I can contain myself on CBS News websites and other msm comments sections, but I hate that it's infected Salon now. SALON! The one website who makes me feel all warm fuzzy has been infected with right-wing trollishness. Heck I'd take Elephantam and Mike Paces anyday over cyntheria and Anonymous. At least those two you can have a discussion with even if you don't agree with them.

  • What's the purpose, ezhik2?

I'm sorry, but I don't really get the purpose of posting, if Obama gets the nom I'm going to vote for McCain and a whole bunch of other "centrist" democrats will follow suit? First of all, the latter argument is hardly quantifiable. I think I've seen 3 or 4 people on this letters threads whose said the same thing (who could, ofcourse, actually just be you in different persona.) And your personal choice not to vote for Obama, well that's fine. Knock yourself out. It seems like you are saying this (over and over again, in any message thread) just to get a rise outta people. You are entitled to your opion. I don't think it's fair to castigate democrats for actually voting for someone they beleive in, rather than voting the safe choice.

Anyway, I don't know, I think it's impossible to speculate on how the American public is going to vote IF Obama gets the nomination. We have no idea what's going to happen between then and now, (heck, McCain could drop dead...we could find out Obama has an illegitimate 3/4" white love child) and who knows, maybe Obama will switch gears in his campaign and start focusing more on policy in his speeches. The fact is that since Obama and Clinton are so similiar in their policy, arguing over the facts doesn't drive enough of a wedge between. So they focused on perdonality, experiene, leadership, etc.

This is the most exciting presidential race of my life. Even though they started campaigning what feels like twenty years ago, things are still up in the air. I can't wait until we pick a nominee, Hillary or Obama, and we can start seeing some real fireworks between dems and republicans.
