Black Civil Rights vs. Womens Liberation
[Read the article: Bill Clinton shows -- and gets -- the love]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"There was a time when most people thought that it was "irrational" to let black people have the same rights as white people. Why would they want them anyway? They had their own world, and they lived good lives, had plenty of food, good jobs (mostly as servants to white people), and even had opportunities to move up in the black community (as owner of a business catering to black people). They were happy within their world. Why should anything change?
Now... there are a lot of women wondering when society is going to wake up to the idea that "separate but equal" is no more acceptable for women than it is for any other group in our society."
Where are the laws on the books implicitly making women (I'm assuming white woman) second class citizens? When are they not allowed to go to the polls and vote? Where are the segregated (and not by choice) into their own schools, not allowed to use certain water fountains. I know women and men get their own bathrooms, but to be honest, I count that as a blessing, as I've had to use a mens bathroom in a club once or twice. There is also millitary service; I beleive, however, that as we fight more and more wars, there will be a point where women will be in combat situations unfettered because they need warm bodies.
Yes, I'm a woman, so I understand the plight of women in this country. But your biggest problem is that you are constantly saying that black people got their rights so why are women (presumambly white woman) still being oppressed.
Laws in this country have been changed for both blacks and women over the 100 hundred years so that there is very little legal discrimmination which makes either groups into second class citizens under American law. No one is legally disenfrachises any longer (except for felons, which are...ding..ding...ding, disproportionately black.)
Atitudes, however, have not changed. Women and black people are still perceived as inferior by some folks. Plenty of people in this country (male and female) don't think a woman can be the commander in Chief. They also don't think a black man can either.
And just because its because de riguer to make racist comments in public doesn't mean that people in their hearts aren't racist and don't discrimminate against blacks using other means.

Maybe Addicted to Love meant
[Read the article: Bill Clinton shows -- and gets -- the love]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That even though Bill can be an ass and an philanderer, the democratic party (and democrats as a whole) is still addicted to loving him, obsessively so. I don't think Bill is so much addicted to love as he is addicted to pu....well you get what I mean.
I know I am addicted to loving Bill Clinton (even if he's a closet racist...just kidding...) and no matter what he did (Don't Ask Don't tell, screwing up the last years of his presidency when he could have made some real changes by schupting some fat-bottomed intern and getting caught and having to go through a trial, etc...) even when its not good for me.
Who knows. Maybe they picked the song because he, you know, loves Robert Palmer. Just like I love Bill Clinton. I know I do...Might as well face it I'm addicted to Bill.
And this Obama supporter loved his speech and holds no ill-will toward Hillary or Bill Clinton for anything they did during the campaign, because it was war and sometimes you blow up the wrong shit during a war.
I mean Republican primaries are so friggin dirty, but then they turn around and shake hands and put forth a united front...and they win elections. I don't agree with a lot of things Republicans do, but this is one thing I do agree with them about. Political parties should be more like families; sure, you might get in a knock down drag out fight with your sister, but the minute theres an outside threat you come together to take it down.

What IS the deal with Obama's half brother?
[Read the article: Cindy McCain's half sister will vote for Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]People keep bringing him up.
Are he and Obama estranged or something? Did he forget to include him in the autobiography? I mean, his dad had a few wives didn't he (more than one at once, correct) so I don't know if its some sort of nefarious overlooking of the other half-white half-sibling (when did he have time to marry about him because he has never met him. Also, its true, the African siblings are certainly "sexier."
Cindy McCain, however, obviously knows her half-sibling. Her ONE half-sibling; its not like she has a whole bunch of them. But I don't think its necessarily fair to bring up air "beef" between family in a public forum. I certainly wouldn't, especially since none of us know the full story and only one person is talking about it (the in-law.)
I don't know, I think its silly for ANYONE to bring up half-siblings (or full-siblings for that matter) as a reason why someone isn't electable. My brothe is still pissed that I pushed him down the stairs when I was 2 and knocked out his front tooth. (he shoulda stopped teasing me.) Despite my violent tendencies as a child, and even some incidents in my early 20s, I am no longer the sort to throw temper tantrums when I don't get my way.
