You know what I find funny
[Read the article: The right and men who live off their second wives' inherited wealth]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I was reading through these letters and I was waiting, just waiting, for Glenn to put the smackdown on Ms. Odonnell. Not because I necessarily disagree with the spirit of what she is saying. Whatever the hell that is...I think it has to do with Churchhill and Hitler going into an Irish Pub and drinking absinthe whilst they write their autobiographies. Instead of chasing the green dragon, but they do see flashes of Eleanor of Aquitaine (played by Katherine Hepburn) getting it on with with the gay son (is it Richard from the movie?)scrolling across their sugar cubes.
But whatever, no smack down from Glenn. I do so love the smack downs.
What amazes me about the smack downs, however, is how people can get back up and start fighting with him again. I mean, he so often makes his detractors look like illiterate fools.
But I digress...Back in 2004 after the Dems lost, I was a big proponent of the go for the jugular kind of campaigning. That was when I was sure Clinton would be the presidential nominee; I'm not sure it can work for Obama. He will have to walk be very careful not to come off being "angry and black." I was saying earlier today that all of the complaints that he owns a 1.6 million dollar home in Chicago is just ridiculous (especially since I bet you anything its not a friggin mansion. I don't think people really know how home prices work in different parts of the country), but there are a number of people in this country who still get a little unhappy that a black person has anything at all.
I think Obama should definitely attack McCain, but he should also be very careful to make sure that everyone knows that he earned that 1.6 million dollar home by getting a great education and working hard. He did pick a pretty awesome wife though, who made more money that he did, though.

[Read the article: Isn't she lovely?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why would you assume that Michelle Obama is wearing a wig? Or hair extensions? Is it because her hair is straight?
My hair is straight (its called a relaxer...black people in America have been doing it for years) WITHOUT the help of extensions or a wig. It all depends on how thick your hair is before the relaxer whether or not your hair comes out looking full or thin. And relaxers are very tough on your hair; my mom lost chunks of hers and was forced to wear a wig for most of her twenties. But, oh well, she should have gone to work at the bank looking like a bald headed chicken rather than oppress those Indian woman who are probably more happy selling their hair than their kidneys or their lady parts.
The fact is Maureen, I find this whole conversation very offensive. Black woman in particular are VERY sensitive about our hair; those of us who get extensions and wear wigs do so we can fit in with the white fashion aesthetic, especially if we are "professional" women. Having a 'fro or wearing corn rows is not considered professional. But I will cut you some slack since your are not American, you are certainly not black, and you just wanted to instigate some negative bullshit about Michelle Obama and make fun of her hair.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think its funny that someone who bemoans the attacks on Clinton, the sexist attacks, would resort to attacking Michelle on her appearance which is (ding, ding, ding) a sexist attack. And then you go on to say she is oppressing 3rd world woman, without any facts whether the alleged extensions are synthetic or real. (Synthetic hair has come a long way baby. I should know, I had braids for years. But you wouldn't know anything about those either, I'm guessing.)
I wasn't saying you were racist, I was just saying you don't know what the hell you are talking about. Sometimes you do, I will concede, but only a deluded fool beleives she is an authority on EVERYTHING.
I also don't think its seemly to comment on Biden's hair plugs. Which I never noticed, to be honest. I'm sick of people in this country being so focused on outward appearance...but wait, your Irish so aren't you supposed to be intrinsically better than us?
