    First you say:

"I have not read the Twilight series, but it doesn't take more than a cursory glance at the series' premise and its fanbase to realize that this is literary tripe. "

    and then you say,

"If you think Miller is praising the series in this review, maybe you should read it again. Miller's attitude towards the series is little more than contempt, and befuddlement at its popularity. (And rightly so because this series is garbage.)"

I just want to say...YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOKS!

For you to say they are garbage and YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOKS is just...infuriating. I can understand not being INTERESTED in reading the books. There are plenty of popular books out there I've never read nor have any real interest in reading. Heck, I haven't read the Da Vinci code because it doesn't interest me. Also, I'm always relunctant to read any book that comes so highly recommended lest it be completely disappointing and a waste of time. As for the Harry Potter books, I respect J.K. Rowling, but they aren't great books. They were enjoyable but high literature it ain't. But, at least unlike you, I've read them and have formed my opinion based on engaging with the text rather than judging it based on the kind of people who like the books.

I would never, ever, ever, call a book or a series of books garbage if I hadn't read them. I don't even know why you bothered to post here except to make sure no one impugns the character of the Potter-verse by comparing the two series. Geez.

  • The arrogance "meme" predates McCain

[Read the article: Karl Rove's media birds chirp about Obama's "arrogance"]

During the primaries some of the biggest criticisms of Obama by Clinton-supporters is that he was arrogant and presumptious by running against her.

Since this critique has already been simmering in the Blogosphere for months, I don't think Rove had to work too hard to come up with this particular attack.

I really don't know what Obama can do to counter this attack. I've found that people read his demeanor as either overbearing and presumptious or he has high self esteem and is confident.

I wish they would just talk about the issues though. I think plenty of people in this country would vote for an arrogant pratt who talks down to them if they knew he could fix the problems we're having.

  • First of all...

It's safe to say the John McCain has lost the celubutard/washed up singer vote.

Also, what, no Lindsay? Is it because she's gay now? I mean she and Obama have known Pablo Escobar intimately; they have much more in common.

And finally, I don't necessarily think this won't help the McCain campaign. Sure, the pundits and the salon posters think he's scraping the barrell, but I'm sure there are people out there who will see this ad and be turned off by the worshipping Obama crowds.

I will say this, though; I got a call from the Obama campaign office today because I volunteered to do some data entry for them. Well, they called me back and said they had to reschedule because it was his birthday on Monday and they were having a party. I can't help but think, is this a campaign office or a fan club? And don't get me started on the We Love Obama Rally they had a few weeks ago. (yuck)

Maybe its common practice in campaigns (since this is the first one I've ever thought to work on) to celebrate the canidates birthday but still...it kind of creeped me out.

“They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. ‘He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?’

And how is this not an accurate representation of the whisper campaign thats been used against Obama since January? All of those emails saying he's a secret muslim; that "joke" email where his posed with his African family, who are all listed as crack heads and criminals. The writer of that email goes on to ask, is this the sort of people we want in the White House?

I don't think its the McCain campaign that is sending out these emails (especially since at the time these emails started, McCain was prettty low on cash.) But SOMEONE is. My money is on some Republican action

What I find the most interesting is how the text of some of these emails end up being posted, verbatim, in the comments sections of websites. So yes, They are trying to make the electorate afraid of Obama. Who that "they" is, is any guess, but I'm positive its a concentrated effort on the part of someone to paint Obama as an unamerican terrorist who is, gasp, black, in case you didn't notice.

  • Moses "led"the Children of Isreal out of Egypt, right?

And after a confab with God, he brought them the 15 Commandments. Then he dropped one so it was the Ten Commandments, I think thats how it went.

That whole parting of the Red Sea was just a parlor trick. I saw Jim Carrey do it with a bowl of tomato soup.

But all kidding aside, Moses was the epitome of what it means to be a leader to his people. Okay, his people wandered around in the desert for awhile under his leadership, but that was part of God's plan in the first place. Moses cast off the trappings of his privelaged upbringing and became arguably the most important prophet in the Judeo-Christian tradition.

I would take the Moses comparison as a compliment. And all good little right-wing republicans have a hard-on for Charlton Heston anyway. (May he rest in peace. What, I forgive his later insanity because of three movies: Planet of the Apes, Omega Man, and Soylent Green.)

I'm starting to think this is a joke. I can't imagine John McCain's campaign would come out with an ad like this.
