Spankathon
[Read the article: "You don't feel like it, but you do it for him"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think what Spankathon is trying to say (and whats up with your name...its kind of dirty) albeit a bit...er...forcefully, is that rape is an issue that affects everyone. She is surprised that more men aren't involved in combating rape and she thinks perhaps men don't realize it affects them as well.
I remember a few years ago I was reading some awful horror novel and one of the male character's mind is invaded by an alien and he says that "now he knows how a woman feels after she is raped. " I can't rememember the book, though, I do know it was written by a guy; for some reason the character (or the writer) couldn't even wrap his awesome creative intellect around the fact that men can be sexually assaulted.
Heck, with Viagra, I would think it would be damn easy nowadays for a woman to be able to have sex with a guy against his will. But of course, like women of earlier generations, if he told anyone about it, I'm sure most people would react with the "just lie back enjoy" canard. Because men are only supposed to be interested in sex and DON'T have any other function on earth other than to stick their dick whereever.
These sort of misconceptions can only be combated through the concerted efforts of men. Which is all Spankathon is trying to say.

Yeah, I know Walker
[Read the article: "The Dark Knight"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm not a 14 year old with masturbation issues and I thoroughly enjoyed Batman Begins.
I can understand not liking a movie. Opinions, like assholes and everything. But, why in Gods name, do people like Durian Joe feel the need to insult those who might have liked Batman Begins. I think people who insult Stephanie for disliking Dark Kight are just as bad. She is entitled to her opinion. I'm sure I don't really care what she says; it won't stop me from seeing the movie, but its an interesting perspective.
I know I will enjoy the Dark Knight because I could watch Christian Bale do ANYTHING and at least one part of me will be a little interested (mmm...Christian Bale...who knew there was such a thing as welsh beefcake...other than Tom Jones...mmm...Tom Jones in concert in Las Vegas...with Christian Bale) So sue me. I guess there is a bit of mastubatory attraction between me and the movie. Oh well.
And I hate Tim Burton. I thought I would just throw that out there. I mean, I can barely stomach any of his movies. It was nice to see a straightforward, not overly production designed, gritty version of Batman on the screen, sans all of the fairy tale aspects Tim Burton brings to the screen.

Thank you Dr. Fresh
[Read the article: "The Dark Knight"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]For articulating why you disliked Batman Begins without resorting to insulting people who might like it.
Also, I can see your point. Batman Begins is far from a perfect movie...but I think some of your criticisms about Bale's acting style was actually a conscious decision on their part. Which I guess you are saying.
Just think about it; Bruce Wayne has been gone for like 5 (or is it 7 years), living hand to fist, and then trains with a bunch of crazy ass vigilantes. It would make sense that he might be a little broody and mopey when he gets back, especially since he knows that these same crazy ass vigilantes are going to destroy the city. He's probably really horny too. I mean, a Chinese prison and a psychedelic training camp.
I think the director and Bale made a conscious choice to play the character the way they did; you might not agree with it, but its kind of cool to see that sort of commitment throughout the movie. So he sounds weird when he does his Batman Voice. He's kind of akward and probably feels a little ridiculous in the suit. And he doesn't even have a clue how to be Bruce Wayne, playboy billionare thrill seeking narcissit anymore, since that person never really existed in the first place? Its as if he's creating two alter egos at once; is it any wonder that everyone in the DC Comic world thinks Batman is a little crazy? Or it could be that like I said, to me, Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan can do no wrong.
I respect your opinion, however, Dr. Fresh.

Budweiser doesn't get me drunk so I don't drink it
[Read the article: The rise and fall of an American beer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I know, I'm an alkie, but since I can't afford more expensive beer, and I want to get more buzz for my buck, I never buy Budweiser. Instead, I drink its Malt liquor-light brother, Natural Ice. So sad. Two tall cans of Natural Ice (at 1.09 a pop) and I'm out for the night. Its also over 5 percent alcohol (I think Bud is only 2) and has probably eaten a hole in my liver by now. (Not that I drink a lot of it.)
In my mind, cheap, foul tasting beer is only good for getting drunk. I could drink a whole six pack of Budweiser and have nothing but a headache to show for it which is why I don't even bother with it. I hope the Germans don't screw up Natural Ice, though.
