  • What cracked me up

[Read the article: Let us now praise Jesse Helms]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

" the frenzied barking of German Shepherds hungry for Negro flesh."

When I was a kid, I watched this movie called "White Dog" (which of course, scared the crap out of me and has made me distrustful of albino german shepherds ever since) about a dog who had been trained to kill black people. I thought maybe I had dreamt the damn thing, until an IMDB search proved that the movie actually existed. I saw it again as an adult, and I laughed my ass off. Especially the part when the wise old black man tells Kristy McNichol, "Girl, you got yo'self a White Dog." Apparently, back then there were a whole bunch of albino german shephards running around who enjoyed the taste of dark meat. Kind of like jungle fever, but evil. I betcha Jesse Helms had one of them, or knew where you could pick one up.

I think this article is pretty funny though. I don't think he was actually being anything other than faceitous regarding Helm's "contribution" to the left.

  • Those who feel strongly enough to withdraw support from Obama

Should also target all of the Democratic senators who voted for the bill. I mean, there were a LOT of them. And especially go after the Senators who helped craft the bill as well. In that, I think LT Bohica has the right idea; I don't think Obama had much to do with crafting FISA and it is disappointing that he went along with signing it like a good little Demo-robot. But he's not the only one. There is no way Nancy Pelosi didn't know her constituents would be livid that she caved in on this.

    Sigh.

  • The humor of Bernie Mac

[Read the article: The offensiveness of Bernie Mac]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I wouldn't say that Bernie Mac is known for "misogynist" humor. That's just ridiculous. He is no "Andrew Dice Clay" if that's what you mean. And even though he might make use of the word 'ho, that doesn't make him a woman-hater.

If you watch the Bernie Mac Show (which is pretty damn funny...sorry) the females, as in any sitcom, are paragons of common sense, intellegence, and beauty(from the wife down to the littlest girl) whereas Bernie is pretty much always in the wrong and the boy, Justin, is just plain....weird.

The only "bad" example of a woman, and a black woman at that, is his sister, mother of the children he takes in, becase she is a crack addict and may have been neglectful and/or abusive towards her children. (Hence the boy's strange behavior.) Bernie's show is based on his own life, by the way.

I think if people actually watched Bernie Mac's show or his stand-up, instead of taking some joke out of context, they would see his humor isn't at the expense of woman.

Having said all this, I think this joke was in the wrong venue.

And I do think all of you who say the joke wasn't funny, can't really judge, because Bernie Mac's comic appeal isn't in the writing, but in his delivery.

  • What's Green about McKinney?

[Read the article: Barack Obama's super marketing machine]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Not much. She just pretty much burned all of her bridges with the Democrats, especially here in Georgia. When I first moved down here, all of the folks in my mom's senior group couldn't stop talking about how pissed off they were at her about the whole capitol police altercation. Elderly black voters were pissed off at her, the backbone of the black voting bloc. None of them bought the whole "racial profiling" b.s.; anyone who has ever worked for the government, either in the millitary or as a civil servant, knows you HAVE to wear identification at all times. Jeez. Is it any wonder she ended up losing the election?

And then she wanted to say she lost because of voting irregularities. pshaw. So, basically, she accused her fellow democrats of fraud.

From what I've heard, I think a lot of her constituents felt she was more invested in grabbing headlines and causing trouble than actually working for them. I really don't know why the Green Party is so fired up to run her; if they are thinking they will be able to shave off some of the black democratic voters down here in Georgia though, they're wrong. Blacks in the South vote democratic (not all of course, but the majority) and being that they are just as conservative and stuck in their ways as their white republican counterparts, it would take Black Jesus Himself on the ballot (and no I'm not talking about Obama you haters) as a Green to make them switch allegiance.

Having said all of this, my views, of course, are based on anecdotal evidence. I like the Green Party platform; I'm just not a big fan of McKinney.

  • An anecdote

[Read the article: Teen pregnancy: "Rational long-term economic choice"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

My best childhood friend was impregnated by her 20 year old boyfriend at the tender age of 15. They got married when she turned 18. They had two kids in total, but in her late twenties, they got divorced because he still had a thing for young girls (bastard) and she wanted to go to college (she got her G.E.D when she was 16) and he wasn't really comfortable with her trying to do more with her life. He had a good job as a mechanic, and I think he wanted his wife to stay at home and cook and clean, and put up with his cheating like a good little Catholic.

After the divorce, she went to community college, transferrred to State, got a degree, and last thing I heard she has a great job. Her children are out of the house. (The oldest is 20 and in college and the youngest is 18.) She's only 36 years old, has no plans to have any more children. Sure she got pregnant young, and maybe it was a mistake, but she certainly wasn't an idiot about it.

I also know the reverse side of the equation; my cousin got pregnant at 16 and has had a baby with every guy she's dated since then. She is a parasite, a horrible mother, and not too bright.
