What bothers me about this case
[Read the article: Is Briana Waters a terrorist?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is the whole "roll over" method employed by the FBI. I know it's common, especially in drug trials and organize crime prosecution, but it seems to me that the two woman who made a deal were probably equal to Waters in culpability. When they are able to finger people higher in the organization, it at least makes some sort of sense (though I don't think that's the case for contract killers for example. People like that are most likely natural born killers. If they weren't working for the Mob most likely they'd be working for a Columbian cartel, or the CIA...hehe) but I think her punishment might be teensy bit disproportionate.
Or she may be more culpable. A lot of the letters here imply she got the getaway car.
On a side note, I do think this article suffers from the, look at this white woman with a child, how could SHE be a terrorist, syndrome. If she was involved in any way, then she's a terrorist. If Arabic men can spend 6 years in GITMO for talking on the phone with their cousin who might be connected Al Quaeda, then she is certainly a terrorist.
This reminds me of my blonde white friend who was caught with an insane amount of illegal drugs in her possession, obviously for sale, who didn't go to jail at all because I'm sure the arresting officers couldn't see her as a drug trafficker. (WHICH SHE WAS. She crossed state lines to get her drugs.) And the federal court didn't take the case, on the recommendation of her arresting officer. (Before any of you think I am pro-drug war, I'm not. But there should AT LEAST be parity in sentencing.) They gave her community service, mandatory drug tests (she was a dealer not a user!) and purged her record when she completed her time.
Unfortunately for Waters, the white girl get out of jail-free card didn't work this time. Conservatives hate a lot of things and a lot of people, but they really really really hate "tree hugging" liberals.

I know this has nothing to do with the movie
[Read the article: "Run Fatboy Run"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But I have to say, Simon Pegg is fucking BRILLIANT! BRILLIANT! I finally saw Hot Fuzz all the way through (it's a long story as to why I hadn't seen it yet since Shaun of the Dead is one of my favorite movies) and I literally fell off of my bed laughing. What amazes me about that movie is how they manage to parody the whole American buddy/cop movie and still manage to make a pretty good mystery/action film.
With the plethora of parodies out there (the whole Epic movie ouvre comes to mind) it is refreshing to see a film not just make fun of conventions but somehow do it almost reverently. And Simon Pegg, with his dour, clipped delivery and perfect archetype of the straight-laced, no-nonsense cop is part of the reason why the movie works so well.
Okay, thats it. I am a little pissed (judging from the letters) that ROSS may have ruined my future imagined baby daddy's reputation. Maybe if this movie tanks he'll just go back to English films.
That is all...

OHMIGOD! Sweet Valley High!
[Read the article: Sweet Valley High goes on a diet]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]ohmigod, like, Sweet Valley High was totally awesome! ! like, jessica was such a bad ass sometimes. elizabeth was a total dork, though. i mean, c'mon, she was like soooo boring and her boyfriend blew chunks! But Jessica was hella cool, though!
Sorry, it brings me back. I didn't read a lot of the novels (mostly because I wasn't going to spend my hard earned allowance on a book that I could read in an hour and that I didn't really care to read over and over again) but I did check them out of the library. I don't remember a lot of sex or drugs though. I do remember when Jessica dyed her hair black. I still have that one in storage somewhere.
As for the perfect size 6 comments...look I was chubby middle schooler. It didn't phase me the twins were a perfect size 6 or white and blonde for that matter. ( Were there any black people in SVH? Or fat people? I remember Enid was chubby... wasn't there an Enid? but then she lost a lot of weight and got hot. Or maybe I'm thinking about something else. She wore glasses though and had hazel eyes with gold flecks. Or something.)
But I guess I didn't take it personal and start vomiting (6 years of ballet class being the fattest girl was more demoralizing) because like Beverly Hills 90201 and most teen shows I watched during that era , people who looked like me were reserved for A very Special Episode. I could never be Jessica or Elizabeth and wouldn't want to be them if I could.
There was something really wholesome though about SVH, which I liked and still like. I'm pretty sure they will ruin the books and turn them into some gossip girl clone, which I find sad. Granted, the heavy-handed messages of the 80s were a little annoying, but at least all of the characters had moral compasses.

I think I might have forgotten there was sex/romance in these books
[Read the article: Sweet Valley High goes on a diet]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]because I was also reading those Anne Rice, Claiming of Sleeping Beauty books, over and over again. Feverishly, I might add. Dear lord, those books were smutty! My lord. (I wonder where I put 'em...)
I kind of wish my parents had taken a closer look at the books I was reading every "perverted" fantasy I have is because of friggin Anne Rice, come to think of it...SVH couldn't compare to hardcore S&M, pleasure slaves, etc...etc. I really need to find those books...

Thank God for Sonof...whatever
[Read the article: The Bus is on the bus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]We have you to inform of us Wright's statements. Maybe you should start a website, wrightisthedevil.com. Also, Obama=Antichrist.net. or better yet, imarepublicantrollinclintonface.com.
I'm actually pretty happy people like you are running this story into the ground. Go ahead. The election is months away, and American's capacity to be shocked, shocked, SHOCKED about any one scandal (even regarding an old retired preacher like Wright) doesn't last forever.
