Thanks for the Clarification
[Read the article: Scotland: It's still rape if she's drunk]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Lynn, I understand now. That's what I get for reading too fast.
Having said, that...
some of the folks posting on here seem to think all a girl at a pub does is wait to pick up Angus, shag him, and then accuse him of rape. Now, I've been known to get drunk and take a guy home in my earlier years, and even though I woke up saying, dear Lord WHAT have I DONE, I think like the vast majority of women, I worked hard on trying to forget. And as a functional alcoholoic, that usually involved more cocktails the next night and another, OH DEAR LORD, moment. Anyway, I didn't go down to the police department. Submit to a rape kit. Get interviewed by a detective. Make a Deposition, take a day off from work to go to court just so I could admit that 1) I am a drunk 2) I am a whore.
Sure, there are vindictive people of both genders, but the truth is, the for the vast majority of cases, the law will be applied fairly. Being accused isn't the same as being convicted, I remind all of you, so don't bring up the friggin' Duke Case, alright.
What we all have to keep in mind is that 1) Absolute perfection/fairness/etc is impossible under the law. It just is. Because we aren't omniscent and omnipotent.
As for the guy who made the comparison between a drunk driver and the girl at the pub getting raped: that's just ridiculous. If that's the way you want to see the world, fine. My suggestion to you is 1) Don't get behind the wheel of the car when you're drunk 2) If in Scotland, don't pick up a drunk girl at Ye Olde Glaswegian. Also, don't screw your Scottish mates either when your pissed.
Words to live by.

I dislike Barry Bonds and I loath the Giants
[Read the article: Your cheating stars]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm a Bay Area girl, born and raised, (A's fan, thank you very much) and I've always disliked both the Giants and their star player.
However, there was always one thing I respected about Bonds; he didn't try to be a role model. He kept his private life to himself. You don't see him on commericals hocking Ben Gay and if he gives to charity, it was never the coldly calcuclated, LOOK AT ME VARIETY. Like the chick from Love and Basketball, he would say, I'm a ball player. That's it. Or, like the Cuba Gooding character from Jerry McGuire, he didn't want to "dance."
Luckily for him, he had talent. Even as a Giants hater from way back (ever since 1989 to be exact) I respect him for eschewing the dance both baseball players and Hollywood types feel they have to do in order to be famous.
I think that's the problem with Bonds, though. What I admired the most about Bonds is proving to be his downfall. If he had gone on Sports Center 3 years ago and cried, saying he did steroids because everybody else was and that he wanted to be the best, blah blah blah, I think people would have warmed up to him. Now, even I find himself despising his coldness and his obvious lying in the face of the evidence. I do think Major League Baseball is singling him out to be the scapegoat because it's easier than admitting they either ignored (and who knows probably encouraged) their players to dope. It's a billion dollar industry, and people don't go to games unless the team wins. To be honest, when has baseball ever been a bastion of intergrity an honor, that anyone could say without a hint of irony, What, HE CHEATED? Oh The Humanity.
No one can expect 40 year olds to play like 20 year olds, and the way little league coaches are training 12 year olds now, will be lucky if the next batch of Major League players will be able to last 5 or 6 years without resorting to pharmaceutical help. Maybe everyone should get on the juice to even the playing field.

I found the comic funny
[Read the article: Tom the Dancing Bug]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is 15 points really that much a gap? And besides, does that mean that all black people score lower than white people on IQ tests? That there are no black people with a high IQ?
It's when you start talking about genetics that I think you run into problems. I'm fine with making a cultural argument against black's not doing well on tests (it is true, I did very well in school but I suffered for it) but most blacks (me included) aren't pure 100% black. Whatever the hell that means. Neither are most whites, for that matter. Until you can look at "African" DNA and find a way to analyze it and make some sort of determination that the intelligence gene is lacking (maybe it's because black men have BIG DICKS!) I think we're pretty much going to have to say it's a cultural/environmental thing, not a genetic thing.
Why would you want to prove it anyway? Besides, aren't Asians smarter than whites? Don't they do better on IQ tests?
Side note: why is it that the minute anyone brings up slavery or anything of that nature, a white person (usually a man I've noticed) has to say, well my family didn't own slaves. No one said you did. Even if they did, I certainly wouldn't hold it against you. Stop being so damn sensitive.
