I can't begin to say how encouraging
[Read the article: The rubes and the elites]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]it is to hear an American politician tell the truth. It's true that our increasingly faltering economy, with its highly visible payoffs to a very few, has scared a lot of Americans and is making more and more of us bitter at our seeming powerlessness to make things right.
We can't fix these problems unless we can get a big fraction of Americans behind the effort. It's a President's job to lead people where we need to go, especially when that direction ay be difficult and initially unpopular. Only a President willing to trust peoples' integrity by telling them the truth can perform at the level of leadership America needs.
I didn't find Obama's "bitterness" remarks offensive - just truthful. Thank you, Senator, and please give us more.

This couple should check
[Read the article: My husband doesn't want to have sex with me]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]into the libido-suppressing effects of many antidepressant meds. I didn't see in her letter whether he is on such meds, but depressed libido is quite common.

Not misogynistic
[Read the article: "The woman's not stupid"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]to criticize and ridicule someone who, while being governor of a state, doesn't know that Africa is a continent. Anyone with gubernatorial responsibilities who exhibits that level of ignorance should be ridiculed as a prequel to ejection from office in the next election, if not sooner by recall. Gender is irrelevant here. Idiocy at high levels should be chastised, whatever its chromosomal makeup.

Camille, we have to part company on this one.
[Read the article: Obama surfs through]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Let's see... to begin with the lesser points. What, exactly, was defective in Obama's making available the "short form" of his birth certificate for inspection? Specifically, how would "a fresh, long-form, stamped certificate" have quieted your concerns? Good grief, your link to factcheck.org discloses a scan of Obama's birth announcement from the Honolulu Register, Aug. 13, 1961, as well as detailed commentary supporting the authenticity of his "short form" birth certificate. Do you also require notarized witness statements that the sun rose this morning? Think of mountains and molehills here, you've confused them.
William Ayers...in respect of whom you state: "his (Obama's - my addition) past connections with Ayers do seem to have been more frequent and substantive than he has claimed.". Sources, please? Anybody besides you? Help me come to an informed opinion on the matter? No?...well then, you're as accurate and helpful as Hannity, Limbaugh, etc. May we move on?
Oops, guess not. You watched a documentary. It said Ayers was a bad guy. Stipulated. (That's past tense, by the way - you do recognize redemption through time served and moving forward to a contributive life, right?) You spent the next 300+ words telling me about his wife, Ms. Dohrn. OK as a sidelight on Dr. Ayers' mating preferences, but this connects with Obama how? Oh - Obama "approved funding of a leftist educational project sponsored by Ayers..." - nope, not a connection to the Ayers/Dohrn dyad, and the MSM was right to ignore it. For once, they forbore from wasting our time.
Now, to Gov. Palin.... I think in your reactive concern for the MSM's dissing her, you've missed entirely that she merits strenuous criticism for her beliefs. Let me repeat that: she merits strenuous criticism for her beliefs. Not for her ignorance.
If our nation conformed to Gov. Palin's beliefs, some of our daughters and sisters would be dying in back alleys from illegal abortions. Others would be bearing children of rape and incest. And the life-changing, empowering availability of contraception would be curtailed. A cornucopia of pointless agony and lost potential. This was our nation until recently, still is the world in many places, and you have more than enough experience of the world to know this to be true.
In Gov. Palin's America, those willing to step up to the responsibilities of marriage would be recognized only if the couple presented the Biblically-correct XX and XY chromosome mix. Never mind that our society needs and draws strength from committed couples, it's all about the packaging in Gov. Palin's America.
OK, the MSM dissed her for her having graduated from a non-elite college, which was trivial and snarky. But really, nobody cares about that. Cream rises, regardless of its humble origins. That's not Gov. Palin's narrative, however, and you've missed that.
Kathleen Sebelius - "has a record indistinguishable from Palin's" - no. No. Gov. Sebelius, member of the Kansas House of Representatives for 8 years, then Insurance Commissioner for 8 years before her election as governor. (Did you note she refused campaign contributions from the insurance industry? Do you have an opinion on Gov. Palin's likely behavior if she were in similar circumstances? Jus' sayin'...) I have no trouble distinguishing these records. What's obscured your vision and judgement?
In assessing Gov. Palin, you've mistaken guile for intelligence. You extol her commitment, firm convictions, and ambition, even though her convictions, if given effect in our nation, would foster a society with no place for you. I deeply disagree with you that Gov. Palin and her values "will save feminism by expanding it, particularly into the more traditional Third World.". Au contraire...
Gov. Palin's beliefs, however passionately held, are based on fear, ignorance, and hatred. We've had eight years of governance by those of similar persuasion. I do hope you'll take some time to reflect on your values and not sign up for the Palin 2012 campaign. Right now, that looks to me like a coin toss.
