high fertility is not the problem
[Read the article: Bill Clinton explains immigration]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Serai1, RealName, etc., your information about fertility rates is out of date. Dr. Hans Rosling gave an amazing presentation debunking the myth that families in third world countries still have tons of kids. Mexican and Indian parents now have two or three kids, just like American families. And China has been enforcing small family size for quite some time. Do check out the presentation - it's the best powerpoint lecture I've seen (sorry Al Gore).

[Read the article: What does the surgeon general really know about health?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I've never heard that domestic violence is committed as much by women as men. Please provide a citation for that statistic.

re: Martin Fiebert
[Read the article: What does the surgeon general really know about health?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I checked out his accumulation of research, and it seems very thorough, but didn't completely convince me since it is not backed up by the stats at the DOJ or the CDC:
http://www.cdc.gov/ncipc/factsheets/ipvfacts.htm
http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/intimate/victims.htm
Even with the assumption that men would report DV less than women because they would be less likely to be injured, there are some pretty big differences on those web pages. However, the female/male victimization ratio was a lot lower than I would have expected, having no background in this field. So, at this point I am convinced that women initiate violence more than I thought, but I wouldn't be comfortable saying equally.

get thee to San Francisco!
[Read the article: I was betrayed by people I trusted]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's expensive, but we like gay people and smart people here. And many people have or are getting doctorates, so they understand where you are at.

maternal = haggard?
[Read the article: Guilty of murder or seeming unmatronly?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The two Daily Mail articles referenced use the same picture - but once with the heading "Maternal" and once with the heading "Haggard". Pretty telling point, IMO.

sentencing men vs. women
[Read the article: The double standard of student-teacher sex]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]labradog - your impressions are incorrect. The matter has been studied, and women do not receive lighter sentences than men:
