Travelling Congressmen controversial. Yeeeah.
[Read the article: The American media's fringe ideological view of Pelosi's trip]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I wonder if *any* Speaker of the House since about 1950 has stayed inside the United States for the whole time they held the office. Certainly there's been grumbling here and there about "gallivanting Congressmen" since at least the 1970s.

This is an "attack"?
[Read the article: The American media's fringe ideological view of Pelosi's trip]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Paul Dirks -
In her autobiography "Living History," Clinton described the incident: "One afternoon midway through the trip, Bill and I put on our bathing suits and ventured down the beach for a swim. Unbeknownst to us, a photographer from Agence France-Presse, the French wire service, was hiding in the bushes on a public beach across the bay. He must have had a powerful telephoto lens, because the next day a photo of us slow-dancing on the beach appeared in newspapers around the world."
A photo like that is going to get a lot more "awww, that's cute!" than "grrrr, hate those middle-aged married folks..." Some attack that is.

Off-Topic
[Read the article: The Bush administration's terrible luck with finding documents]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But possibly amusing.
I was just trolling on Redstate.com... the stupid, it burns!... anyway, in the midst of a thread on how awful it is that people are demanding the e-mails of White House staffers!, a commenter links back to this blog post, and is immediately called to task for linking to a "hate site."
Somebody more verbally agile than I am, please make whatever joke is appropriate here. I can't manage anything better than Fishie Mouth.

Bug, meet boot heel.
[Read the article: Alberto Gonzales testifies]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]AG, meet Senate.
I bet that guy's thinking longingly of being locked up in one of the CIA's "black sites" right now.

I can't speak for "some Democrats."
[Read the article: The Dan Gerstein sham]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]'Cos, well, I'm not "some Democrats." I'm not sure that I'm even ONE Democrat, officially... I might be registered as an independent.
Still, speaking as one person, I'm very happy to see politicians showing up in places like Firedoglake, Kos, or even Redstate. After the last few years of Bush's scripted press conferences, press conferences with planted fake journalists, or just not talking to the press at all, it's a tremendous relief to see members of Congress answering questions from actual live people.

I didn't think that was possible.
[Read the article: Various items]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I've been watching the leaders of the Republican party and the neoconservative movement lie continually for the last ten years or so. And yet, hearing that John Hinderaker actually said, in a public forum:
Not a single instance of corruption has been unearthed.
I had to stop and stare for a bit. That's an amazing thing to say.

Where's the comments?...
[Read the article: The right's explicit and candid rejection of "the rule of law"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I note that they put this thing up at midnight Eastern time, and here it is 1PM their time, and there are *no* published "responses" to it yet. I wonder if every single comment they've gotten to the article sounds like the one I dropped in, saying that this is the United States, thank you, and we don't want any kings here, thank you VERY much, and why don't you crawl back under your rock, Professor, and drag this sorry idea with you?
Mmmmmmmmaybe.

Mike Gravel, doomed candidate
[Read the article: All you need to know about the Beltway journalist mind]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's funny; Mike Gravel is the Democratic candidate least likely to win at least partly because he says things like this so casually. It seems that talking about the elephant in the room steps on almost as many toes as the elephant itself does. Ow! My foot hurts, must be that "Gravel" guy again.
Also, you typed his last name as "Gavel" twice in the first paragraph.

Ancient World heresies? REALLY?...
[Read the article: What Fred Thompson means by the "rule of law"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]SanPasqualCA sez:
(That has not ended, either; 'Christian Right' theology largely consists of reading the Bible with pre-Christian pagan assumptions. And as a result they recapitulate Ancient World heresies such as Marcionism, Arianism, etc.)
You bring the Dominionists, I'll get the telephone poles! Anybody have some lighter fluid, ropes, kindling, and marshmallows?

Who is an "agent"?
[Read the article: The administration's FISA falsehoods continue unabated]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Let's see, this administration has already claimed that accusing someone of being a "terrorist" is enough to make that person *actually* a terrorist. So if Dubya SAYS that Barack Obama is an "agent" of, I don't know, Lesotho, then he IS one, and suddenly it's "reasonable" to think he might have foreign intelligence data on his computer, right? And so it goes.
I'd like to think I was missing something here, but I bet I'm not. Or if I am, it's probably some even shorter path included in the bill to make it legal to imprison all registered Democrats on Dubya's say-so.

Outrage Fatigue
[Read the article: The Islamic enemy within]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I don't know how you manage it, Glenn. The bastards lie on television, and you get mad at that. Then the bastards try to turn the Justice Department into the Suppress the Republic For Republicans Department, and you get mad at THAT. Then the bastards say that anybody who doesn't agree with them is a faggot and and a traitor, and you get mad at that... and then they start saying we should lock up all the scary Mooslims, and you get mad at them for THAT... where do you get all this mad from?
Not, I mean, that I'm blaming you for any of it... I'm just a little tired right now. They manage to be bastards in so MANY ways, y'know?

Arne! Be nice!
[Read the article: Preordering week for "A Tragic Legacy"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]We *like* our trolls. They're an important feature of the site. They let people know that yes, the people Glenn talks about in his post really do exist. I mean, honestly-- if I just TOLD you about shooter or elephantman, would you believe me?

Bad 70s music video
[Read the article: "Fringe liberal bloggers"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]GAWD it was bad. Anyway, it featured these women dressed as "Indian Princesses", in what were basically bikini-top-and-miniskirt combos with like eighteen-inch-long fringe dangling off them. There was more fringe than costume! Anyway, I don't know why that comes to mind just now, but it does.

Tiberius is right!
[Read the article: Krauthammer's plan to deny Palestinians gas and electricity]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Glenn's post *does* fail to mention the rocket attacks on Israel by Hamas. In the service of justice, a mob of large sweaty men should go to tiberius' house and beat him to within an inch of his life.
What's that, you say? tiberius isn't the one firing rockets? Well, the noncombatant Palestinians who'd be hurt if Israel cut off electricity and water aren't firing rockets, either.
Perhaps if someone stuffed tiberius on a plane, sent him to Gaza, and THEN had him beaten up? Would it be fair then?...
