  • Let's play What If?

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]

For all of the people saying that the rule is wrong, bad, flawed, etc. let's play a game of "what if". Also, remember that Amare did not just take a couple of steps towards the scrum; he RAN towards it. Here we go:

What if Stephen Jackson was still a Spur?

What if in reaction to Amare and Borris, Jackson "stepped up" to the 2 Suns?

What if a fist fight between Amare and Jackson developed?

What if a Palace level brawl ensued?

While none of this happened it shows the league's thinking on the issue. Have a rule with draconian consequences to ensure that there is never another brawl like in Detroit. If the rule is not enforced the league loses control.

And for everyone comparing Duncan to this, give me a break. Play wasn't even stopped and no fouls were called. Hard to call that an altercation, no?

  • Steven Jackson Definitely is a Psychopath

The NBA has already set the lines on acceptable behavior for players and fans. Once set, those lines cannot be crossed without punishment. For example, you brought up fans and due to the brawl fans found throwing things onto an NBA court are banished from any and all NBA arenas. As a fan, I know that if I cross that line I will face the punishment. All NBA players know about the leaving the bench rule yet Amare and Borris chose to cross the line. As a result they are being punished.

I really think that it is a simple black and white rule. If Stern allows for there to be any grey areas (i.e. on someone's discretion what deserves a suspension) I think the integrity of the league would be damaged even further.

What ifs can be used to show the justification/reason/need for any rule or law. Have a point next time.

  • It's not that bad

You're a bit loose with the numbers and aren't giving credit where it is due. Don't forget that the Pac-10 actually requires it's teams to play a full conference schedule so USC, UCLA, and Cal only have 3 non-conference games. Those nine games are against Tennessee, Notre Dame (x2), Nebraska, BYU, Utah, Colorado State, Idaho, and La Tech. Of those 9, 2 are ranked and 5 could hardly be called traditional patsies. Notre Dame, BYU, Utah, and Colorado State have all fielded pretty good (and ranked teams) within the past few years. Only Idaho and La Tech could be called patsies and even they went to bowl games within the past few years.

  • Bradley had a chip on his shoulder

Something that seems to get lost in all of the reports of this incident is that Bradley (rightly or wrongly) had something against Winters. Why else would he specifically ask the home plate ump if it were Winters that told him about the bat toss? I don't think it would have mattered what Winters said to him at that point. With the Expos, Indians, and Dodgers if Milton PERCEIVED that he had been slighted he would fly off the handle.

Also, Bradley didn't hurt his knee from Black throwing him to the ground. If you watch the video, Bradley's knee buckles and then he crumples to the ground.

  • What's the big deal?

I really don't care that we can't crown a national champion every year in college football. I love having the types of debates that follwed the selection for the National Championship Game. Let's keep it the way it is!

  • I love...

[Read the article: CNN's John King responds]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

..how King can't distinguish between what he said (the questions he asked) and what was aired. He seems to think that because he supposedly asked some "tough questions" the interview isn't fawning, even if those "tough questions" never saw airtime.

  • I'd be more worried....

[Read the article: A note about War Room's reader comments]

...if it went the other way and people didn't care and didn't get emotional. While somewhere in the middle would be best, I like that people care enough about topics/issues to get all worked up.

  • Geographically Challenged

Did anyone else notice how often commentators stated that Stanford had a “home court” advantage because they were playing in California? Anaheim and Palo Alto are, what, 300-400 miles apart? Not even to mention how different they are culturally. Of course, if that is my biggest pet peeve then it was a pretty good weekend of basketball.

  • Marquette to Anaheim

Is about the same distance between a 3 and 6 seed.

  • Anaheim in LA?

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Saying Anaheim is in LA is akin to saying that Sacramento is Bay Area. Sure they are close, but they are VERY different (I’ve lived in 3 of the 4…I haven’t had to joy of living in LA).

My original point was that the announcers (not just on CBS) repeatedly pointed out that Stanford had a home court advantage BECAUSE they were playing in California. Other schools were playing much closer (in miles and in ease of travel) to their campuses than were the Cardinal but that didn’t get the attention that Stanford got. North Carolina didn’t even get as much attention even though they were playing in Raleigh. From listening to them I got the feeling that they thought that someone in Palo Alto could just decide to drive on over to the game and get some scalped tickets.

  • The role of college

College (at the Bachelor’s level) has changed from a place to learn to a place to gain the prerequisites to get a decent job. College athletes in big time sports are there to showcase their skills for scouts in the hopes of going “pro”. So the atheletes are just using college in the role that it now plays.

  • The killer timeout/over coaching

I noticed the same thing after that TO...Davidson didn't look like the same team after it.

I think Lute Olsen said it best regarding over-coaching, "if you have to yell and scream at your players during a game, you're not doing your job during practice."
