They're making a show of a "no" vote but refusing to do the very thing that might give that vote meaning.
Isn't that the same as saying in a Presidential election "You may as well not vote for the candidate unless he's going to win."?
As great as my distaste for Alito is, votes cast on the losing side of an issue are never meaningless.
It's "Marques Tuiasosopo" not "Marcus".
Thanks for the Perry Como article. It seems that every magazine or radio station I like is trying to ram rock & roll down my throat. There's something reassuring in musicians with good voices actually singing melodies.
Neil Young on the cover of Time ? I haven't picked up that magazine since.
Its hard to tell from the context, but maybe this is the right thing. If farmers using GM crops become responsible for the leak of their IP, a viable option is to stop using these odious products.
Of course, that's mostly just wishful thinking on my part.
I'm pretty sure that quail fly low to the ground.
I believe that the President is forbidden from appointing a relative to a federal office. That law was passed after John Kennedy appointed Robert Kennedy to be his Attorney General.
Any thoughts? Should a team be allowed to opt-out of shooting free throws in a bonus situation, if they'd prefer the chance to inbound?
The NCAA tried that as an experimental rule in the Maui season-opening tournament some years ago.
The fouled team had the choice of shooting free-throws, or inbounding the ball again. What that led to was the fouling team fouling repeatedly (10+ times) until the inbounding team finally turned the ball over. Inbounds plays are hard. Giving the defensive team multiple shots at them (relatively) penalty free hurts them team that rule tries to help.
Maybe make the double-bonus two shots plus a third if the first two are made? I don't like watching free throws either, but it would limit the "foul the other team to limit them to two points" strategy.
There are the cynical among us who believe that this could involve machinations by MLB. MLB still owns the Washington Nationals, and this is turning into a MLBPA vs. MLB.
If MLB thinks it can win a case that weakens the MLBPA, I'm not surprised to see them force the situation in that direction through Nationals management.
Those muslims will need practice turning the other cheek before they can become good Christians like the ones torturing them!
Is 29,148 the average attendance or the average weekend attendance? Weekend games already draw more fans.
What's the alternative to prevent end-game fouls? Its just not giving the offensive team an inbound -- that's an advantage to the defense, giving them a decent shot at a turnover at the cost of a foul and a few seconds. Free throws and the ball? You've raised the cost a lot more, but still those annoying free throws are there. An undefended inbound and/or time off the clock? Hm. Maybe.
I hope the NBA keeps with the Stackhouse precendent. No attempt at the ball, and a clear shot at the body. I'd have tossed him and suspended him. The NBA doesn't need players either making or getting hurt on those plays. The question isn't "Did Shaq get hurt on that play?" The question is, "What would it have meant to the finals for Shaq to get hurt on that play?" If a series-changing injury can be had for a flagrant foul, then next time down the court Didier Ilunga-Mbenga is probably coming after Dwayne Wade and Wayne Simien is hunting for Dirk Nowtizki's head. Nevermind the loss of revenue the NBA would see.
If it means killing Bill O'Reilly to bring about regime change, I'm all for it.
So, O'Reilly just wants to switch one ugly narcissist out for another?
That would be an improvement on US Cold War policy of assassinating or deposing democratically elected but left-leaning leaders in favor of US-friendly brutal military dictators.
If you were my co-worker and told me that the sound of chewing near you drives you crazy, I'd do my best not to eat at my desk or anywhere near you. Dang. That must suck for you.
If your current job environment doesn't allow you to keep sane either fight until it does, or find another that is more accomodating. Look into all of your ADA and FMLA options. Taking time off to care for yourself can be covered under the FMLA.
Replacing a good employee is very expensive for an employer. I would suspect (or at least hope) that yours will work with you to find a solution.
Zidane knew what he was doing.
Why can't we all be happy with the amount of...chutzpah, to keep it clean...that he has to get deliberately thrown out of overtime of the most important match of his career?
Perhaps yes, we should welcome him to the anti-war fold. But he should be excoriated and voted out of office for failing to do this job in the first place.
The country may well get a functioning democracy out of this -- united against Israel and the U.S.
I'd take it. Unified nation and legitimate government means political means to their ends. Its not too late.
Overall, I like his style. Its more eloquent and nuanced than Tim Grieve. And nuance is essential -- the politics of black and white are the politics of the far right.
That said, he does tend to run a bit long. I've found his best material to be the stuff that comes in at 3-5 paragraphs, not 8 or so.
I'm currently trying to edit the article into a bit better shape. At least enough to get it not deleted.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
