how can she continue, meaningfully, to June without a huge infusion of cash? at least we know why she has not dumped Penn, as the campaign owes him really big bucks.. plus other debts totalling over 8 million dollars?http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0308/9259.html

    in part

"Well, it is true. Hillary Clinton's chief strategist is Mark Penn, and Charlie Black, John McCain's top adviser, is chairman of BKSH, the DC-based lobbying subsidiary of Burson-Marsteller -- of which Mark Penn is CEO.

Yes, this is the same lobbyist Barack Obama was referring to when he criticized John McCain for allowing lobbyists to conduct their business on board his bus.

BKSH is a bipartisan lobbying firm. Black, the chairman is the top Republican. The top Democrat is R. Scott Pastrick, who like Penn, supports Hillary Clinton.

Mark Penn's personal interests would clearly be best served by a Hillary Clinton victory.

A McCain presidency wouldn't be a bad consolation prize, however. It would be far better to have the head of his lobbying be tight with the president than to have a president like Obama who sought to impose new restrictions on his lobbyist operation.

Burson-Marsteller's work is primarily for corporations, ranging from Blackwater to Microsoft to the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, the sovereign wealth fund of the government of Abu Dhabi that recently purchased a 5% stake in Citigroup.

Try this: Wasserman Schulz for veep. The only disadvantage I see: the bumper sticker would fit only an SUV/Hummer

  • @Jacques DELAGUERRE re Goldwater

I must disagree. I watched the campaign as a young woman in Augusta, Georgia. I saw Ladybird when she passed thru on the "Ladybird Express". I listened to voters using the n*lover to describe President and Mrs. Johnson. I did wonder if he sent his Ladybird through the south and hid under his desk in DC.

We watched the returns with some well educated Georgians. Everyone was sure it would be Goldwater in a walkover. We thought not, told them so. and Sen. LBJ won the election in a landslide. Goldwater carried only 5 southern states plus his own, if I remember correctly.

I feel the same racism, diluted, now, but for months Goldwater has been on my mind. Won't it be great if he carries only 5 southern states (or 5 western states) and Arizona? Deja vue all over again...
