"Down With Tyranny"
[Read the article: The strong and tough Democrats]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Let's stop broad brush trashing the Democrats and put the blame where it belongs. On Rahm Emauel and the 'insiders'. Blue America has been doing great work and are continuing to do so. See their track record noted below.
From Down With Tyranny:
http://tinyurl.com/36emaf
Indiana was 3 for 3-- 3 freshmen Democrats elected, 3 freshmen Democrats who vote just the way the Republicans they replaced would have voted on issue after issue after issue. Last year Rahm Emanuel Insiders shoved 3 right of center marginal Democrats down Indiana's throat: Baron Hill, Joe Donnelly and Brad Ellsworth. Blue America made no endorsements in these races. Gretchen Clearwater, our candidate to oppose far right reactionary Mike Sodrel, was beaten in the Democratic primary by a less far right reactionary, ex- and future congressman Baron Hill. Hill has turned out to be as awful as we expected, voting with Bush at nearly every opportunity, yesterday's FISA authorization being just the latest assault on Democratic (and American) values and ideals.
His two clones, Brad Ellsworth and Joe Donnelly, have been exactly as horrible, voting against the Democrats on almost every issue that separates Democrats from Republicans, progressives from reactionaries. In 2008 there is a race in Indiana shaping up that will be very different from the lesser of two evils type races in most Indiana districts. Progressive, values-oriented minister Barry Welsh is challenging right-wing extremist loon Mike Pence again. This time, though, Barry, could actually beat him. And I'd take one Barry Welsh for a trio of traitors like Hill, Ellsworth and Donnelly any day of the week. Barry will be the live Blue America guest at Firedoglake on Saturday, September 1. (I'll remind you closer to the day.)

Since you've repeated that "question" at least three times now, I'm assuming that it tingles you in some weird way. I'm sure you could find venues for such perversions, shooter, if you haven't all ready. Please attend them, if you must, but leave this one. You're not needed here. You contribute nothing.

@Glenn...and others here
[Read the article: The strong and tough Democrats]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]-this would not have happened without the full participation of the Democratic leadership. They control the bills, what gets voted on, how long Congress stays in session, all of it. Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi were ordered by the President to stay in Washington and so they did, keeping the sessions opened and allowing this bill to be enacted.
They could have obstructed, filibustered, done all sorts of things to prevent its enactment. They did nothing. Once they knew it would pass, enough of them voted against it to enable those who want to defend them to point to their little meek votes against it as though they are not to blame. Sorry, but they just are.
-- GlennGreenwald
Points taken. So then, aside from voting out the Democrats who voted in favor, and, at the very least, excoriating the Democrats who did no more than cast a vote in opposition, without actually taking action to not permit the two mentioned travesties to become "law",...what do we do? Vote out Pelosi and Reid? That would, of course, be fine with me if it would help.
It does become increasingly more difficult to not be shattered to the point of being overwhelmed by how deeply useless, or worse, our Senators and Representatives have become.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Re: Blue Dog Dems
All the ranting about Blue Dog Democrats & etc, and vows to make sure "progressives" start winning instead, are just so much spitting against the wind. On and off over the years I've lived in Indiana...
-- -Mona-
I don't know about Indiana as an example, but to flat out say that replacing or running progressives or liberals over so called Democratic candidates or office holders who will vote Republican is "spitting in the wind" is flat denial or ignorance. We have already accomplished a good showing of that happening in 2006. What makes you say or think we can't do even better this next time around?
With a lot of work and a lot of attention to detail there is no reason in Republican Hell that we can't get some badn's out and bring some goodn's in.

You're right, you don't know Indiana.

And that snide remark addresses the premise of my reply to you in what way? Did I miss something?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]No, you didn't. You are wrong about what constitutes either "flat denial or ignorance." Blue Dog/Conservative Democrats are what Indiana elects for the most part, and that is not going to change any time soon -- to not realize that is to be either ignorant or in denial. And I'd be delighted if one those Democrats replaced the execrable Mark Souder (R) in the House. But a Nancy Pelosi wouldn't have a snowball's chance.
-- -Mona-
Well then, you did miss something.
Either I wasn't clear enough or you, for some other reason, didn't comprehend what I had written. I was sincerely saying that I don't know about Indiana. I was taking your word for it, you might say.
Then, because it seemed to me that you were trashing the possibility of replacing Blue Dogs and such 'anywhere' in the country, I found that to be an ignorant statement since we have already done that and will certainly do more of it. Not disputing your opinion about Indiana. Just what seemed to me to be your opinion about the whole concept of how likely it would be that we can replace Blue Dog dregs in general.
