Did the President tell the truth in the State of the Union?

At this point, the answer is simply unclear. First, let's review what President Bush actually said: "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa." Many have criticized the president because it appears that this statement originated with forged documents indicating Iraq attempted to obtain uranium from Niger. The International Atomic Energy Agency revealed in March 2003 that these documents were phony. Since then, we have learned that the Bush administration had previously heard from multiple sources who questioned those claims, including an investigation by former Ambassador Joseph Wilson and doubts raised by the State Department and CIA.

The point and the bottom line is, by the time Bush made that statement it was well known that the papers were forgeries.

Why in the hell would someone want to continue being so dense as you insist on continuing to be, sh**ter? The 16 words were bunk as far as whether or not they had any use. That's all there was and is to it. Why in the hell would you want to hang your hat on a he said/she said when everyone who is being honest about it by now knows there was no there there?

Of all that there is out there to be outraged and concerned about, Joe lieberman has long been at the top of my list of dangerous, destructive forces to be concerned about on the national stage. But, gawdallmighty! I have underestimated just how dangerous this man truly is to America.

I for one - and probably most of us here - am and was well aware of what you posted about Lieberman. I fought tooth and nail from afar through sites such as FDL to see to it that Lieberman would be defeated. What happened after he won. He was awarded with a standing ovation by the vast majority of the Democratic Senators. Disgusting and disturbing writ large.

I don't understand the shock and disbelief

These people are not a fringe movement of wackos, this is a mainstream fundamentalist viewpoint over which there is no debate. Virtually all of the largest mainstream fundamentalist Protestant denominations agree with Hagee's and Lieberman's views.

The Rapture is not some bizarre concept to them. This is something which is believed by ,b>huge numbers of people in this country.

Anyone who has ever been involved for any length of time with one of these fundamentalist churches can confirm that these views are the norm. There is no debating these issues with them.

With Bush at 28% approval, with the Iraq occupation at 70% disapproval, I'd say that is a bit of an exaggeration.

My brother, who happens to live in Oklahoma (the bible belt) is deeply involved in church going. He, and as far as I know, most or none of his congregation, don't sell or buy into any of the insanity that Hagee and Lieberman are selling.

Here is an example of Klein speaking in a way that reinforces what you've suggested about how his thought processes stew and are then ultimately put into voice.

What you have stated, Paul, puts his above statement into a perspective. It's arrogance not, as he claims, hard work that has resulted in his to being the feeble "reporter" that he is. Even his sarcasm sounds borrowed.

I couldn't help but notice that he tries to differentiate himself from you by claiming that he does "reporting" in contrast to whatever it is you do, but his idea of reporting is to cultivate friendships with big-important people and then report what they tell him. He's incapable of realizing that when you look at a situation from the outside-in you actually see a clearer picture. In that regard, He's a victim of his own success.
