And yes, you are required, as a recruit, to state your religion. You are just not required to have one.-- Goldsilverplatinumbergsteinmen
Please provide a link to the language of that Requirement.
Still waiting for your link to your online analysis of Sgt. Russell's sexual orientation in regards to his reasons for having 'snapped', or anything else you might have written about Sgt. Russell and his murder spree of five of his fellow troops back in May of this year. I know he wasn't a Muslim but still, you must have been concerned -- right? Or do you only do analysis on military personal involved in tragedies who happen to be Muslim, and are not married?
Here are some facts:Official figures show that out of 1.4million service men and women, 3,572 are Muslims, under one per cent.
US Department of Defence numbers also show that out of that number, 1,164 are in the Army, which has more than half a million soldiers.
-- didus ineptus
Even if those "facts" are "facts" what does it have to do with this tragedy and this discussion?
Just so you know, your "facts" are disputed.
It is not clear exactly how many Muslims serve in the 1.4 million-strong US armed forces, as recruits are not required to state their religion.According to the Pentagon, there are 3,572 Muslims in active service. However, some Muslims in the military say the real number is as high as 20,000.
Now, of course, what I just posted is not a "fact". But what you posted came from two sources, one of which you will correct me if I'm wrong. 1)The Pentagon. 2) The Daily Mail Online repeating "facts" made up by the Pentagon.
You [LBoogie] should really try to analyze these events without a narrow prism.-- allendale
Read the story that Holly linked to. Let us know if you posted anything here at Glenn's comments, or anywhere else on the internet, about Army Sgt. John M. Russell's sexual orientation and how it might or might not have been of analytical value in his killing spree. In case you are unaware, Sgt. Russell killed five of his fellow troops while in Iraq. This happened a few months ago. So if you have any postings about it you should not find it too difficult to relocate them and post them now. You know, just so that you can share your deep analytical thoughts with us some more.
Linked at signature also.

hey illumcan you try for once not to be such a jerk?
-- zepgirl
Yep. I've begun two comments about what a "Jerk" illum has been in every single one of his or her comments this morning. I decided not to bother but I'll ride your coattails zepgirl. Let it be known that illum hasn't written a comment yet that shows that he or she has a clue what the point of Glenn's post is about. He or she is either stupid or a liar or both.
She is doing nothing similar to what Glenn Greenwald does.-- Mytwords
You posted her comment in the post that I replied to, which was, indeed, a misleading comment by her in regards to what she actually had said on air. I've now listened to what she said on air and, yeah, she is the Alicia Shepard that I know of and find to be grossly disingenuous.
But I read your comment here and then read the comment by her that you linked to. If her comment were what she really had said on air then it would have been the same as what Glenn does here but, Unfortunately, she lied. I can't use 'stretched the truth' or 'dissembled' because what she said in the comment is a complete lie about what she had said on air.
I've read your blog before and appreciate your NPR Watch. But I don't think you were clear in the way you posted your comment here this morning.
NPR's ombudsman recently "explained" her expressed wish to have "more conservative" voices (like Limbaugh and Beck) heard on NPR. I kid you not:http://www.npr.org/ombudsman/2009/11/glenn_beck_and_me.html
-- Mytwords
No, that isn't what she said.
From your link:
"That quote does not indicate that I think Beck should be on NPR every day, nor do I think that sexism, racism or lying have a place on NPR. But if Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Lou Dobbs, Sarah Palin or any other prominent conservative firebrand is making headlines, NPR should report that as part of the news -- not to promote them but to include when putting news in context.--Alicia Shepard

Not really much different than what Glenn does, and, in fact has done just today by posting the string of misinformation being reported on msm and blogs about the Fort Hood story.
Not just lip-service. I want to hear that unhinged, passionate kind of hatred that was directed at Bush for eight years straight, directed at Obama.-- IIuLTiMaFoRSaNII
You gave yourself away with that statement. I know you'll claim that you were being sarcastic or bombastic or something, but really, I ain't buying it. "Unhinged hatred" wasn't what it was. Pure and totally understandable outrage and disgust was what it was. Most of us here have frequently expressed that same degree of outrage and disgust at the current occupant's actions as well. If you missed it, that could only be because you haven't been paying attention, or, you're a gawdamned liar.
Hey you guys, when did the Groucho nose and glasses turn up at the title of Glenn's post? It hasn't been there all day long, has it?
