What are "girl next door types"? Are you telling me Hooters doesn't hire women based on their looks? What type of girl lives next door to you?

Well the term is used to describe an average attractive girl the kind that every high school has a few of but not a women of out of this world looks. Victory Secret Models for example fall into the out of this world category. Or to put into a crude point scale the women that work at hooters are for the most part 7's to 9's. I could go to a Target or the Mall and see women as hot or hotter both as customers or workers in any number of stores.

And almost every restaurant hires based on looks. Don't see to many 200 lb women or 300 lb men working service in fine dinning either.

Not sure why you're lumping feminists and preteens together, but did you notice that the name of the restaurant is "Hooters," which is slang for "tits" or "boobs" or "bazoombas"? It obviously isn't name for an owl.

Well because they are the two groups that think hooters is anything more than a restaurant name aside. The name is a corny joke that has made the founders which include several women a shit load of money and publicity. If you really think anyone besides a 12 year old boy is turned on by their uniform you are kidding only yourself.

As for families who take their kids to Hooters, I will go out on a chicken wing and say that they're horrible parents. No, really -- what kind of responsible parent takes his kids to a restaurant named after a slang word for boobs?

Well since pretty much every item on Hooters menu is a kids fav that probably explains it. Or how about a family that wants to go out to watch a football or baseball game? The choices mostly come down to Hooters or a Sports Bar.

I got dragged to a Hooters for somebody's birthday. The food is terrible.

So is Applebee's but they are in every town in America. Hooters grew on its "reputation" and that they where basically the first chain to push wings. Wings became popular in America and at the same time synonymous with Hooters.

Why not blame the victim? Ignore Bright star's many issues but he is not entirely wrong here.

First the disclaimer that people will ignore. This is in no way to say that the abuser should not get jail time or is not responsible for the actions. Or this is in any way a mitigating circumstance for the abuser. Or the victim deserved it.

From the story it seems almost certain that this is not the first time she has been hit around to the point that it has effected her daily routine.* What I am basically getting at after the first time she was hit she kept herself in the situation. Why do we continue to coddle people that do this? This is not the 1950s or even the 1980's. This women grew up in a country where you would have to go out of your way not to know this kind of treatment is wrong. Where almost every show on TV has dealt with this issue. Where in areas that there would be a hooters there would also be an abuse shelter. Where it is almost certain that if she called the police her boyfriend would be behind bars for at least the night and have a restraining order against him by the morning.

So at what point does the victim have any responsibility? If I go into a liquor store in a high crime area and leave the Audi running while I run in, I am a victim but at the same time I allowed myself to be the victim. Victim's that stay with their abusers are just as mentally ill as the abuser and maybe if we say that as a society it could help some. I am by no means an expert in the subject of abusers that end up killing there SO but I would bet that a victim that leaves after the 1st time is all but never killed in retribution. Even if they choose not to press charges they still have the great option of leaving. This behavior shows itself long before there is no escape options because hell if an abuser is trapping a person so that they can not escape that in it self is warning sign to get the hell out.

And please people do not come back with far fetched what ifs. Most abuse cases do not involve a cop though some do. Most abuse cases do not involve wide spread indifference from the community and local police forces though some do. You know damn well that I am talking about the average case hear.

*Another disclaimer I am not in anyway saying that it requires someone has to be hurt so badly that they miss work. I think any abuse is wrong and should be reported. Just pointing out that in this case that the beatings where bad enough that she knew they had a negative effect on her life.
