You deserve a star but unfortunately you will not get one as you did not toe the broadsheet line.
This quote from the article of course is telling
"Hmm. Granted, I lack the scientific expertise of Judson, but do you really need a Ph.D. to realize that formulating an essay on a completely hypothetical correlation is somewhat reckless?"
Of course you don't need a Ph. D. to talk about science this is broadsheet where a Women's Study BA is all you need to know on what is the correct politics err correct answer for every subject under the sun, from science to math to geography.
I saw the headline and I saw the author and I never expected the response from her. I know there are some BS readers that actually believe the nonsense that women are superior and would obviously build highways of flowers and end all violence but the original article sums it up correctly.
I am a huge Campbell Brown fan but she is wrong here, there is no double standard well at least from the male side. Straight men and the vast majority of gay men judge women exactly the same as they judge women when it comes to cloths. A man that dresses in well fitted clothing and appears neat and professional is treated that way and a women that dresses in well fitted clothing and appears neat and professional is treated that way. It is only when a outfit goes against what is expected is it noticed such as Hillary Clinton's Startrek uniform she wore. Other than such instances no one notices. Just like I only comment on cloths and style to friends of mine that wear something that is outside of the usual attire, because I don't otherwise notice. The comments made to me from friends and acquaintances about my cloths/style is only when I made a change.
It is women and a very small number of gay men (Perez Hilton/hollywood gossip types) that care about style and cloths. This stupid myth that women need to be more stylish will only stop when women decide not to gossip about it and dress for each other. It is the decision to wear bold colors and cloths to make a statement that makes women spend more on cloths. Men make a statement with a bold tie with a traditional colored suit so the suit can be reused with out comment while it seems many of the women that try to make a statement make it with a bold color suit which requires a longer time between reuse instead of choosing a bold shirt. So if you want to call out this story for being a double standard at least be honest about who has that double standard.
Microsoft is not moving office to a cloud model they are introducing a cloud based version to the current lineup of office. They will still make offline client versions of office for the foreseeable future. This is a salon tech blog you should know by now to expect the most anti MS coverage possible and well bad reporting overall.
This is a smart move by MS too as more and more mobile internet devices come onto the market this allows them to leverage the Office brand (you know by far the best productivity suite available with no one even close) to devices that do not have the power or storage to run the client software. This is a move to get Iphone users, Gphone users, Blackberry users and the rest of the smart phone users to use their service when away from the desk. On top of that this is microsoft gaining insight on what features are needed so the version after this has even better integration with the client software.
I am tired of the whining from the 3rd parties and I voted for Nader in Florida in 2000. I thought at the time that building a party with national access would be a good thing but I was younger and dumber. There will not be a lasting 3rd party unless it is built from the ground up. A party needs to run for school boards and city councils and than state office before it is even close to be a national presence and until a party is willing to put in that kind of work they don't deserve a single vote.
On top of that what if the unthinkable happens and Nader or Barr where to win? Who would fill the cabinet? Who would fill the secondary and lower levels at the different departments? At least if you vote for the Dems or Reps you know they have a roster of talent available for the positions and a basic idea where they stand on the issues.
He is exactly right. Scarface is the American Dream seen though the lens of millions living in the underclass. Tony is part of the tradition started with westerns of a strong man that lives by a code right or wrong and is willing to die for that code. And while that code allows him to reach the top it is also responsible for his downfall. These themes are found throughout American culture and in Scarface they added brutality is a reflection of the urban underclass who rent though the crack wars of the 80's to the death of public housing that has wrecked havoc this decade in many medium sized cities and in some large cities.
The movies critics ignore the power of this movie at their own risk. This movie along with other movies that are panned by middle class sensibilities like Verhoven's work are hated because no one wants to believe that this is a reality in their own backyard.
