Original article: Quote of the day

aka smith

From Census data which can be found at http://www.census.gov/population/www/socdemo/education/cps2007.html

There is about 92 million white women 18 and of that 80 million graduated HS for a grad rate of around 87 percent. About a quarter of whom have a BA or above. 55 percent have attended some form of higher eduction be it college or trade school.

There is little less than 12 million black males over 18 and of that about 9.4 million have graduated HS for about a 80 percent graduation rate. And that is before comparing the actual educations received. The number of black men with a BA or above is about 15 percent. 42 percent have attended some form of higher education be it college or trade school.

No matter how you slice it, Black men graduate high school less, those that graduate HS go to college at lower levels, and finally earn BA and above less.

This might indeed indicate discrimination since women are more likely to leave the work force for childrearing duties. Is there some particular reason for black men to leave the work force, putting them behind in the experience category?

Well besides discrimination, since black males are more likely to be under the supervision of the state be it prison or probation it is hard to find a job.

Well here you are perhaps comparing apples to oranges. For the crime of rape, DNA evidence can be exculpatory. The Innocence Project is doing fine work, but women tend to convicted of less serious crimes than men. Convictions fo hot checkwriting is unlikely to attact the fervor of activists as those crimes with longer sentences.

There has not been a single women exonerated of a felony. While we are in the hundreds for black men. Women in general and especially white women are rarely prosecuted for felonies or even DV despite a number of studies showing women are responsible for around half of all DV.

Crimes happen because of perpetrators. What can you tell us about the perpetrators of violent crime against black males?

Evidence?

Also, I classify any type of sexual assault as a crime of violence -- incest for instance -- but not all statistical studies see it this way. Too bad. I know of no crime that causes more lasting damage (other than murder) to the victim than incest.

It does not matter who the perpetrator of violence is to the victim. So for the point I was making who cares how did the crime, I was pointing out who is the victim of the crime.

From the Department of Justice http://www.ojp.gov/bjs/abstract/cvusst.htm all the numbers unless noted are victims per 10,000.

All crimes. Black Males 32.6 White Women 16.5

Violent Crime. Black Males 31.6 White Women 15.6

I am not sure if they include incest or not but to get the numbers even close no black male would have to be a victim and over 1.5 million white women would have to be victims of incest per year and the few studies that show numbers that high seem very pie in the sky it seems likely the number is closer to about .05 percent of the population which would put

the number to about 1.5 million total victims with at least 20 to 40 percent being male.

Sorry. Can't give you this one. I saw many people here at Salon who said that they were not voting for Senator Clinton just because she was a woman. I was one of them. Again you compare things that don't really compare.

Also, what link supports your claim?

How do they not compare in this context? This directly goes to what Katie said in the quote of the day that some who sexism is more open while racism is not. Go to cnn.com and look at the exit polls for each primary there you will see they asked these 2 question in almost every state; Was gender important to you and was Race important to you. In every state that question was asked Clinton won those who said gender was important about 2 to 1 and the number that said it was important was around 20 percent. In every state that the question on race was asked Clinton won anywhere from 2 to 1 to 4 to 1 with about 20 percent in each state. So the number of people that said they voted against Clinton because of sex was around 7 percent of the voters while those that said they voted against Obama because of race was around 15 percent. Those that voted for Clinton because she was a women was about 13 percent. Those that voted for Obama because of his race was about 5 percent.

These number to me show that a person is more likely to admit they are a racist then a sexist.

You are soooo utterly wrong on this one. Women constantly contend with backhanded compliments about their intelligence. They also contend with open insults to their intelligence.

What backhanded compliment is even in the same league be in for its patronizing or its use as "he is so articulate"?

In fact, I am not sure any male black or white would garner so much criticism about his looks or his salary. Making money alone does not make a person's opinion negligible.

If you leave the pink ghetto you would know how laughable that statement really is. In September turn the dial to sports talk radio or go to FOXSports and read the comments left about black athletes. Curik has not had a tenth shit make that a thousandth of the hate directed at her as a Chad Johnson, TO, Moss, McNabb or any other highly paid black player and lets not even start on the hate directed at NBA players for there contracts and race.
