He is not saying it is right or wrong he saying why the pill and Viagra are treated differently by the insurance companies period. Yes, sometimes Viagra is misused but as Xanthro already said the misuse of Viagra can lead to both civil recourse for the insurance company and criminal charges. Yes sometimes the pill is used for reasons other than preventing pregnancy and the previous letter writer might have a strong civil case against the insurance company for denying her the pill but the majority of the time the pill is used to prevent pregnancy which is not a medical condition. I don't understand why insurance companies do not want to cover the pill as it is much cheaper over the long term than covering the cost of pregnancy and an infant. But that is neither here or there. The point that I think Xanthro is getting at and I am definitely getting at is if you want the insurance companies and law makers to take this issue seriously you need to understand why an insurance company would cover one and not the other in the first place.
