I'd forgotten how hilariously funny Ashcroft could be.
A few helpful tips for you:
1) Try to make some token attempt to address the topic we're discussing. Reading Glenn's post usually offers some clues as to what that might be.
2) The Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of RIghts make it pretty damn clear that this country was never intended as a theocracy. You might even say our motto is "No kings, NOT EVEN Jesus."
3) Driving a Hyundai does not make you a Korean War vet.
Always glad to help a raving imbecile.
I don't make seven or eight figures, but David Broder speaks for me and plenty of others in the Greatest Generation.

Especially when he makes that girgling sound in the back of his throat when he's chugging the Metamucil.
Jake, if you qualify as a member of the Greatest Anything, they must be grading on the curve.
When my typing gets as sloppy as the above, I know it's time to call it a night. Have fun.
Joe Klein thinks it's smart to pretend to be stupid when in fact he's so stupid, he thinks he's smart. I'd repeat that more clearly if I could but I'm still dizzy from the first time.
I just went back and read (for the first time) the 1998 Sally Quinn column Glenn linked to in today's post. It's like reading a dispatch from another universe. I'd urge all of you to read it; just make sure you're within sprinting distance of a bathroom, or keep a bucket handy -- it's likely to induce vomiting.
The amazing part is the repeated lament from these Beltway talking heads that they're most irate about being constantly lied to, the same Beltway talking heads who have been constantly lied to (often directly to their faces on national TV) by various and sundry Bush Administration snakes for the last six years. In 1998, they were furious. Now, apparently, not so much. We've come a long way, baby.
It's the same 20 people all screaming the same thing over and over every day ...
Which is different from your regular-as-clockwork bitching and moaning here how, exactly?
I, the lone dissenter to this circle jerk ...
Do you have an eye problem, a reading comprehension problem, or are you simply (as I suspect) mentally ill?
... he just comments on them.
Nice work if you can get it.
My concern is that it's going to become the representative blog - what Liberal Blogs Believe -- and it will be staffed with the likes of Edsall and filled with stuff from the Jon Alters and we will see all sorts of things along the lines of: "Even the leading liberal blog, Huffington Post, posted a criticism of the liberal bloggers who argued X, calling them irresponsible, shrill and vulgar." ... It will be, as I said, the equivalent of Politico.

That is precisely what is happening. It's practically Broderesque!
Of course, I lost my initial interest in and affection for the Huffington Post as it tipped over into celebrity worship and Hollywood gossip. Now that they're releasing reader comments "selectively" or shutting them down entirely, my disenchantment has turned to open hostility.
You are hereby accused of discussing terrorism. The evidence is right here in this comments section. (The preceding sentence was your trial.) You are guilty -- incredibly guilty. As a fierce Bush loyalist and cryptofascist, we know you'll agree it's your patriotic duty to proceed directly to your back yard and shoot yourself through the head. If you accidentally kill or injure your loved ones, that's collateral damage. Thanks loads.
The "difference" is that Clinton ADMITTED to lying, sexual or not, while if Bush claimed that he doesn't have bowel movements because Jesus sends a white dove to carry his turds away, I would believe him.
Have YOU read the Book of Romans and/or the Book of Revelation?

Jake will now demonstrate how many angels can dance on a pinhead.

My condolences, Jake, but I'm sure you'll find another boyfriend soon. CNN failed to report the quote from Jesus, "He was just too fat, ugly and hateful to live."
Get over it.

It's going to take the United States years, maybe generations, to "get over it." In fact, the damage inflicted by the Jonestown Administration is so deep and pervasive, we may never get over it.
When do you plan to "get over it" and admit your pet chimp has been an unmitigated disaster for the nation, the world, and -- closer to home -- both your political party and your so-called faith?
It's worth noting that the moment the Oklahoma City bombing happened, fingers all over America were pointing at Islamic fundamentalists and decrying this terroristic attack. Then it came out that the suspects were white, male Americans. Oops!
After that, it stopped being described as terrorism.

You're right, and I don't think Glenn went far enough with his reference to the Virginia Tech shooter. The wingnuts didn't merely lose interest because he wasn't a Muslim; they shut up like clams when it was revealed that Cho Seung Hui was a Christian from a church-going family! That's gotta be bad for the Elmer Gantry business, right?
Anyone heard a peep from the right since that little tidbit came to light? Me neither.
