[Read the article: A split Democratic decision]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'd say Obama's chances at winning the election this fall are far better than Hillary's. Since he's actually going to be headlining the ticket and Hillary will be watching from the sidelines. Hard to become President if you can't secure your party's nomination, y'know?
I can appreciate that some Hillary supporters feel strongly about their chosen candidate and are understandably disappointed in the outcome of this race. But I have no patience for the Hillary supporters who make disingenuous and often totally false claims about her chances of winning, "threaten" to vote for McCain or stay home in November if they don't get their way, and repeatedly insist that Obama can't win in the GE despite all evidence to the contrary.
You folks are not obliged to support or vote for Obama in the fall, but please spare us the idle threats and juvenile temper tantrums. Nobody really gives a shit who you vote for.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Ummm...you should care very much who they vote for because Obama cannot win without the support of the other half of the Democratic Party, not to mention at least a plurality of independent voters and a handful of Republicans.
In the post you responded to, I was clear about the kind of Clinton supporters I really don't care about:
1. The Clinton supporters who continue to make disingenuous arguments in favor of her continued candidacy. For example, those folks claiming that she leads in the popular vote (when you include results from Florida and Michigan [where Obama received no votes] and discount caucus states Obama won).
2. The Clinton supporters who threaten to defect to vote for John McCain out of spite.
3. The Clinton supporters who repeatedly insist that Obama cannot win in the general election, despite his leading McCain in national polls.
Like I said, there are enthusiastic Clinton supporters who've become heavily invested in her campaign and they are disappointed. I can appreciate that. But the species of bottom-feeders I've identified above have gone well beyond enthusiastic support and are now trying to blackmail the party.
And so far as I'm concerned, these folks can take their votes and go fuck themselves.

The question I'd really like Joan to answer
[Read the article: A split Democratic decision]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The only way Hillary could win the nomination is for Florida and Michigan delegates to be seated according to a vote that wasn't supposed to count (with no delegates for Obama, since his name wasn't on the ticket), plus the overwhelming support of superdelegates.
Joan, you've spent a lot of time analyzing this race and in my opinion, making arguments in favor of Hillary's continued candidacy. To my knowledge, you have never answered whether you think the scenario above is a legitimate path to the nomination. Let's say Obama reaches 2,025 delegates and Hillary claims he hasn't won the nomination yet because FL/MI weren't counted and she refuses to conceded. Would you be okay with Hillary taking this kind of action?
It is frankly kind of annoying to see you repeatedly chide Obama supporters when your columns have a pro-Hillary slant (which is fine) but never answer the simple question of how Hillary can win and whether her nomination would be legitimate. Instead, you keep focusing on how she has a "right" to run through June 4, etc.
What bothers me is that unless they're bluffing, Hillary and her campaign don't ever intend to concede, even after June 4. Does this bother you in the least? You spend a lot more time complaining about how Obama supporters are big sexist meanies than actually talking about ways Hillary could win and what her candidacy is all about.
To be honest, it makes you seem like one of those "women of a certain age" like Ferraro who see this race entirely through the prism of identity politics.

@ Carol Richards
[Read the article: A split Democratic decision]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I sincerely hope you are correct and Hillary concedes after every state/territory has voted. But I will not be surprised if that doesn't happen, because of Hillary's scorched earth tactics to this point and the highly disingenuous claims her campaign has been making about the popular vote and the legitimacy of the 2,026-delegate total. Maybe this is just bluffing to keep supporters on board for these next few weeks, but I'm not so sure.
For the past few months, quite a few Hillary backers on this site have been lying about the popular vote and FL/MI, threatening to support McCain in the fall, and insisting that Obama can't win in the general election. So its a little annoying to also be chided for failing to "respect" Hillary when her campaign and so many of its supporters have shown no respect to Obama, especially when Joan et al. cannot even explain how their chosen candidate is going to win this thing.
Respect is a two-way street.

[Read the article: United Mine Workers endorses Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is it gauche to wonder whether Hillary's "marriage" to her husband is really a business partnership? I don't see how you can actually love a man who has a 30-year track record of cheating on and publicly humiliating his family.

Lezah - Sadly typical of Hillary supporters
[Read the article: A split Democratic decision]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]1. "Threatens" to vote for McCain, as if we're supposed to beg her to come back into the fold? Check.
2. Suggests the media has it in for Hillary, as if Obama would still be considered a viable candidate after 11 straight crushing losses and an insurmountable shortfall in delegates? You betcha.
3. Implies tha I have a "blind" hatred of women and the Clintons? Of course.
Your depthless self-pity is juvenile and pathetic. Go whine to your guidance counselor. I don't want your vote. In fact, I forbid you from voting for Obama this fall.
