Mission Accomplished
[Read the article: Bush's European disaster]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Here at Salon we love preaching to the choir, well because it's cathartic. I await every Thursday for another dose of SB, that gives me more reasons to despise George Bush or Cheney or Rice or Gonzales etc...
But I'm a politico, so that's not surprising. I have no knowledge or appreciation of American Baseball or Football. For all I know there could be the most perfidious administration at the top of those sports being ruthless, machiavellian and incompetent, and I'd not have the first inkling. Plenty of people in the world view Politics in the same way. It has no traction for them. Yes Bush and co are in the news more than the administrative heads of sports, but plenty of people don't watch any news. The Bush's smirking face comes on and says "we will find those who harbour terrists and hunt them down" and who could disasgree with that? it's pure commonsense.
The main PNAC aim of rebuilding America's defences has been ushered in in earnest. So as far as they are concerned forcing Bush to re-invigorate the military-industrial-congressional complex with huge infusions of government cash has been achieved. The transfer of wealth has been effected. They have set the terms of the debate and everybody will have to follow their b[anal] and destructive anti-terror agenda.
The reason the Dems aren't succeeding is that their noses are in the congressional troth too! It's no use looking at a system from the point of view of how crooks justify their actions, it's much more important to view it structurally. When the history is written does anyone really believe that the Dems will be covered in glory for the pathetic way they didn't counter really obvious lies and deceit. Who knows how else the Dems are exactly held over a barrel, but let's not forget that when Daschle didn't want to sign the patriot act, he got a letter-full of US-highly-weaponised anthrax. The only targets of the anthrax (as far as I have understood) were 2 democratic senators and some liberal media outlets. No Republicans and certainly not Fox.
oh dear.

It's bad, the whole world will regret this
[Read the article: "Hamastan" vs. "Fatahstan"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]it's easy to forget that Israel started Hammas 20+ years ago in a divide and conquer bid to create strife and division in Gaza and the West Bank for their main powerful enemy at the time Fatah. Israel moans about Hammas, but let's remember that they sidelined Arafat (Fatah) and even once tried and largely succeeded to blow up his legitimate government compound in Rammalah when he was holed up in it.
This matter is too complex to settle in one or a million letters. The endlessly repeated narratives in the MSM of people like Sharon and Olmert and Barak etc... are of a bunch of patriots, yes admittedly hard negotiators who are trying to do the best by their country in the face of terrorists. There is never any mention of the network of informers, the vicious army, the rampant militarims, of the gulags , of the de facto apartheid in the West Bank, and of the facts on the ground [i.e illegal settlements] contrary to all UN resolutions etc..
The Israelis are plenty smart and they play dirty and fight dirty, after pushing their foot hard against the throats of the Palestinians for 40 years, they have finally driven them to really desperate measures and this is the outcome.
My guess is that the Israelis will be happy with Hammasstan because they can say to the world "see what we have to deal with", which is a bit like the alcoholic parent who abused his child for countless years turning around to the judge when his child is caught shoplifiting saying "your honour I'm at my wits end"
nobdoy forced the Israelis once they had their bona fide state in '48 to steal yet more land, but they chose to do it, this created more bitterness. The reality on the ground is that not you, not I not anybody on the planet would sanely choose to be a Palestinian living in either Gaza or the West Bank, the Israelis have made it a living hell. And they did that to repel the terrorist attacks that were the inevitable result of the world class brazen-ness of the land theft in the first place.
Israel exists, the Arabs should learn to deal with it, Egypt and Jordan have, but it's time the Americans forced them to leave the West bank, because if they don't for the sake of defending the crazy and selfish West Bank settlers, we will all pay for it, and I don't want to pay for it, because the illegal settlements are not worth my nephew's little finger. they shouldn't have built them, they should obey international law and live with that just like they want the Palestinians to live wiht the fact of the existence of Israel. Why should the world go to hell for the sake of 450,000 Israeli settlers and their racist Zionist ideology, why should America back them, Those people don't deserve any blood shed in the form of the terrorism to come just to keep them on their stolen land.
Americans that aren't ardently zionist or rapture fanatics should ask themselves "what's in it for me?"
the short answer is nothing but misery and injustice to other people who have a better claim on the land in the first place. Remember: The west bank settlements are in the West bank on not within the officially recognized borders of the legitimate state of Israel.
Enough already
