the point is that Obama, number one in the Harvard Law School graduating class, turned down the fast track to big money- huge money- including an appellate court clerkship, to work for 20K a year on the south side of Chicago. Did he single handedly reverse decades of decay? Of course not. No one could. It's the struggle and the willingness to be part of it. If he was so blasted ambitious, why didn't he take the high profile jobs and go with the money? It was there. He chose otherwise. Read into it what you will. Was he clairvoyant enough he was building his Presidential resume twenty years ago? Get real. The Clintons also made some choice that did not lead to immediate wealth. Good for them.

I think Obama is a remarkable talent who seems to be growing before our eyes. Even if elected, his success is far from guaranteed. I make no claim other than his eloquence and his ability to energize young and other new voters is unprecedented in recent history. Hillary didn't even pass the bar on her first shot, but that doesn't matter. Nitpicking Obama's resume apparently still obsesses you. Grow the hell up. We have a country to salvage. Don't you believe Hillary in her plea to get behind Obama for the good of America? Or do you cherry pick the parts of her public persona that fit your tiny little mind? How trivial can you be, for God's sake?

If Hillary had run her campaign the way she spoke today, bitter smitty, she very probably would have won. I'd have voted for her without hesitation, without reference to my gender or hers, and with concern only for the future of our country if we get four more years of fascism. that's not enough for you. you continue to piss in the punchbowl. I could give a damn who pisses in the punchbowl sitting down, and who does so standing up. the pollution is the same, and the harm it does to us collectively. and your false litany of self pity- that whites can't understand blacks, that men can't understand women (by extension, that jews can understand christians, the the young can't understand the old, and on and on) is deeply cynical, self defeating, and profoundly wrong. If there is no hope for common humanity, this country, and any so conceived and so dedicated, is doomed. clutch that self pity to your bosom (not a gender linked term- we all have one) and wallow in it to your own soul's detriment. the turn of phrase "drown in your damned chocolate milk" seemed to me self evidently hyperbolic, not literal. For anyone who thought I meant any literal or figurative harm to aka smith or anyone else I apologize. None of us gets everything we want. not close. too much is on the line to do anything other than vote straight democratic this November. I am the first to admit that the party is riven with deep problems, hypocrisy, lack of courage, and a list of shortcomings that would fill a phone book. this is not the time to address those issues. We need to take power back. the DNC needs a massive overhaul, and the Senate needs a leader with nerve and actual leadership. the name clinton comes to mind. Hillary replacing Harry Milquetoast Reid would be a more powerful position than VP by far. Again, I'm sorry for any impression I gave that invoked physical, or any other kind of harm, to Smith.
