Oy

Oh, the typos in my last comment. It's like a Dr. Suess book. Oh, the typos that I wrote!

And yeah, Joan, you should stop replying to comments. And stop reading all 1,500 of them. I can't even imagine how you have the time. I generally ignore comments to my writing. And personally (and grouch-ily) replying to comments, when you're the editor of Salon.com is... I dunno, kind of lame. Would Hemmingway be worrying about comments on his blog? Would Faulkner? Would Edith Wharton? Would anyone?

Just stop writing about the election, please. There's plenty of other stuff for you to write about. But you've lost it, clearly.

Hey, Joan

This column by you was totally fine! In fact, I kind of liked it. That's awesome. See; I can be a nice guy.

...Yeah

Salon, this has really got to stop. The comment sections are either good or completely unreadable, depending on whether five or six certain commentators show up. If you can manage to spend the time deleting Shawn's more horrifically offensive posts, then can you can certainly block him. So do it, please.

The end

Hillary Clinton and John Kerry both gave their best speeches on the day that they lost their bid for the Presidency.

What does it all mean?

Maybe that, when the pressure's off, they can finally relax and act like the normal likeable human beings that they are. Try doing that during the campaign next time, dudes!

Hillary: if you actually campaign the next time around with the same passion and integrity that you brought to this speech, then I'll actually vote for you. Okay? Deal?

The year that time stood still.

You guys love having the same argument over... and over... and over again... don't you? Have fun with that. The rest of us will be voting for Obama or McCain, those being the two candidates for the presidency of the United States.

When the dumb people write in, as they will...

...I would like to request that they please stop talking. I just read ten pages of comments about Obama's pick of Biden. Please, be silent, all of you. All of you wishy-washy Democrats, all of you faux "Democratic" Republicans. The comments on Salon consist of four types of comments:

1) Earnest comments in favor of Obama.

2) Earnest comments against Obama.

3) Insane comments by crazy trolls.

4) Earnest comments in response to the crazy trolls...

Which leads to--

1) More crazy comments by the trolls.

2) More earnest attempts to reason with the trolls.

3) Crazy comments.

4) Angry, earnest replies to the crazy comments.

At which point I bashed my head in with a rock and died, so that I wouldn't have read anymore. The greatest failure of the internet is that it has convinced ordinary people that their remarks and feelings are of interest/importance. They are not. Stop writing them down and posting them. I don't care how you feel about Obama or Biden. No one does. The only people who do are your fellow 50 or so commenters.

We have a good Presidental Candidate and a good Vice Presidental Candidate. You can vote Obama/Biden or not. If you don't, then you are an idiot/asshole, or you're very wealthy, which is the one sensible reason I can think of for being a Republican.

Either way, shut up. Stop your handwringing, stop talking about how you feel about every infintesimal thing. Stop talking, in fact, and go out there and do something.

I think...

...that someone wrote in here and suggested that I don't understand how normal people like to talk about stuff, express their opinions, etc...

I do. I like that. People talking to each other and expressing their opinions is awesome; it's been done since the dawn of time.

The problem is that most of you guys aren't acting like normal people. Instead, via the power of the internet, you've become awful. None of you would ever dare say the horrible insulting things that you write here -- you would never dare to say them in real life. And you would never be tempted to say them in real life. Because when you're with normal people, you don't get so mad -- you understand what they're saying and try to relate to them. Because that's real life; that's what talking to real people is like.

So, to quote John Stewart: "Stop it. You're hurting America." You are ruining our political discourse with your vile insult-slinging. Stop fighting on the internet, and do something in real life.

Patronizing...

...Picking Palin is patronizing because no one, no single rational human being would think that McCain surveyed the field of available Republican candidates in America and thought, "Sarah Palin, she's the one! She's the one to be vice president of a nation of 300 million people! There is no one more qualified than her!"

Instead he thought, "...Hillary voters... try to look less old... Romney is awful..." and then I'm not really sure what he thought after that.

I was stunned by the ridiculousiness of this VP pick, but after reading the Salon comments (a mistake that I'm making for the last time), a lot of people seem to think that it's super-awesome.

Whatever. I would have bet that the American people weren't this dumb, at one point. But that's a sucker's bet. We are this dumb, and more. We haven't nearly even reached our dumbness level yet. We've got dumbness yet to spare.

And now, let the calvacade of 185 crazy insulting comments begin... Farewell Salon; you used to not suck quite so much.
