The perception of a massively pro-Clinton bias of the media, and a prejudice against Obama, is inexplicable to me. It's like the Fox News people who, thinking of the press in the '60s or something, see nothing but "liberal bias." Methinks both camps see what they want to see. The press as a whole have been savagely dismissive of Hillary, and in fact they've been the secret ingredient, allowing Obama to float like a butterfly while the press is stinging like bees. We had the relentless Russert being about as "journalistic" with Hillary as a seal hunter with a baby seal. Trick question after trick question, until she buckled. And Obama went in for the kill, even though his position on the question is very much like Spitzer's. But he's gotten a free ride.
Matthews on MSNBC has been having a festival of smarm, dissing Hillary -- not on policy, that's fair game -- but on her "authenticity" and her femininity. The guy's a psycho, and he represents a lot of millionaire idiots. It's not a right-wing press, though it definitely tilts right, but it's sure as hell not left either. Tell you what, lovers of the empty speaker, if the past front-runner falls, they're coming after you. It's like sharks. That's just what they do.
Remember, it was only a little while ago that MoDo was calling Obama "Obambi."
And tell me, what great thing have i got to hope for? And no, electing a black president isn't good enough. If it was Thomas Sowell, or Clarence Thomas, it would be a disaster. So where is your man at?
Or Obama will go all Harry and Louise on your asses. He had a radio ad in Iowa that complained that "Hillary and Edward's plan will FORCE you to buy health insurance." Gee, it seems only fair enough, since the insurance companies will have to compete against the Expanded Medicare option, which will be subsidized for the poor, and they won't be able to deny anybody coverage, even if they're sick at the time they apply. So... the mandatory nature is only fair, right? You want taxes to pay for it all? Not a political winner. You want the insurance companies to make a wreck out of another healthcare proposal? Vote for the bipartisan fairy dust candidate.
By embracing "optional" healthcare, Obama is pleasing a lot of insurance companies because they know it's a loser -- and this is how he's wooing Republicans. See, he won't actually BE a scary Democrat.
Great that Obama has taken race off the table. That's the end of his accomplishments. He's backed, not by the masses, but by a bunch of savvy Chicago political consultants and media liars like Matthews, Dowd, Rich, et. al. You liked Gore's defeat? Vote for the forces that arranged it.
The reason? It's a small state, with cheap media buys. And the caucus system generally makes the vote so low that you can easily game it. Did Obama bring out an extra 100,000? I think George Bush owes a percentage of that, but let's say he did. In a primary, an extra 100,000 is no big frickin' deal.
And when the same press that constructed all those lies about Gore is now pushing Obama, pardon me if I vomit a little bit in my mouth. The crime is, we have to listen to our election coverage from such unreliable witnesses.
He nice to Republicans, and nasty and stab-in-the-back to fellow Democrats. Hillary stumbles after trick questions from Russert, and Obama turns the knife, even though his position on the matter, and Hillary's, are almost indistinguishable. No real "crisis" on Social Security? Get Hillary to say what she will do, immediately, about the "crisis." Make nice with the fundies? Accept "former gays" into your supporters' list. Need some traction with Edwards? Call him a greedy trial lawyer. Want to bring more Republicans in to vote for you? Put out a health care plan that is "voluntary," and then yell and scream about "smears when Hillary (and Krugman) explain that your plan will be more expensive because of that, and definitely not universal.
He gives good speech. I'm still waiting for exactly what I should be "hopeful" about. That the Lions will Lie Down with the Lambs? Yes, just prior to the Lions Eating the Lambs.
That's what bothers me about Obama, that whole post-partisan bullcrap. As Krugman says, we don't need bipartisanship to fix us, we need a tidal wave of left partisanship to get us back to square one. His charm, even his comic timing, I concede. I don't believe in his political wisdom.
And neither does anybody else. Karl Rove, however, has famously given Obama advice about how to beat Hillary, and that's exactly what he's doing.
I'm betting that once they've got the kid in there, the dirty phone calls about "Hussein Osama-- er, Obama," and pictures of him and Al Sharpton will begin to circulate, and the kid will be cut down to size -- and he'll have to wait a long time for the bipartisan armies to show up to defend him. But the kids will stage demonstrations! Yeah, like that'll work. Demonstrations put Nixon in.
I think the writer who said that FDR and Johnson were both operating in times when Democrats got huge majorities, because the Republicans Hoover and Goldwater had gone down to crushing defeats, is exactly right. We've got them on the run. Now is no time to ease up and start making nice. You want them back in force in 2012? Vote Obama.
