See, you brought up the subject, Joan

And here come the Huffies, as crazed an anti-Clinton central as ever the GOP-led noise machine ever was. The other day, when Obama was caught with his false oppo research on the Clintons, the story was buried and a false headline was put on it. That's not a news judgment.

Hillary is a centrist. Like it or don't like it. Oppose her honestly.

The Huffies can't talk about anything but how evil Hillary is. They're obsessed.

Hey, Edwards voted for Iraq, too. And for the Patriot Act. And I bet Obama would have if he was in the Senate at the time -- and he did vote to reauthorize the Patriot Act.

Nobody, in fact, is perfect. Can we talk a little politics here?

The most annoying and worrisome refrain the Huffies have is this: if (my candidate) gets beaten by Hillary, I will never, ever vote for her. Really? You'd let Thompson get in? Or Brownback or Giuliani? Then you're not really serious, and you haven't really thought it out.

I would vote for Edwards or Obama or Richardson, who are the others who have a shot at the nomination. Why won't you? Do you understand American politics at all? Do you know what happens to third parties? The answer? Nothing.

Social Gospel

Glad to see there's some progressive thought coming out of this fount of reaction.

He's the one behind the condemnation of Catholic politicians who support the right to choose, since, in JFK's terms, they don't want to be president of the Catholics, but president of all Americans. He's the one behind the ascension of Father Pavone, the guy who was the counselor for the mother and father in the Schiaivo nightmare.

Speaking as an ex-Catholic, feh.

He's going to pardon him

Best analysis I've read is this: He wanted to commute now -- very unusual until you've done some time -- to keep him out of jail so there would be no temptation to roll over on Cheney, and also to keep him from testifying in Congress. (He'd plead the Fifth, because anything he said, etc.) Then, when Bush is leaving office -- God speed that day -- he will pardon Libby, removing the taint for good.

Oh, and the money that Fred Thompson et al will keep him from paying any fines, too. I wonder if Carville has contributed anything towards the "Get Out of Jail Free" fund.

The Senator from Russert, DE

Media Matters did a count. Number one guest on Russert's Republican windbags show: John McCain. Second: Joe. Back when Joe Biden first ran, when his plagiarism was revealed, I was disappointed, because he really showed some fire back than. Now he's just a comfortable citizen of Russertania settin' in his rocking chair every other Sunday, not sayin' a whole lot but sounding clever, and bein' asked back to the old Republican Cracker Barrel again.

Original article: Al's big day

The putdown line of the year

In this age of endless web-surfing, I can never remember where I saw something. However the subtle (and not-so-subtle) putdowns were out in force. This is Al Gore, you know, the INSANE MAN who SAYS HE INVENTED THE INTERNET.

However, the putdown was this: clever camerawork took our mind away from the fact that the Meadowlands wasn't sold out! Where were the "hidden" empty seats? Behind the stage! To the left and right of the stage!

Psst. Would anybody in their right minds pay for a seat behind that huge video screen stage, with lighting towers and the like? No. They never sell those seats. If Jesus came back and show off his new, free car that runs on smiles and sanctifying grace, they wouldn't see those seats, because you can't see anything from there, and it's likely the sound would suck too. But this is Al Gore, so HE MUST BE EXAGGERATING. You know how he lies about everything, don't you?

It was a great show.

Original article: Rep. Sheehan?

It's very sad

But frankly, why can't she can't she count the votes? Why can't she understand that the U.S. Congress cannot run like a meeting of Citizens Against the War? Nancy Pelosi has walked into every vote with a very small majority, and with the Senate facing a much tighter vote. So the Democrats, Blue Dogs, Yellow Dogs and all, have done pretty well keeping their own coalition together and passing a budget with timelines twice. Unfortunately, Bush has vetoed it twice, and the only hope is to get a veto-proof majority. This will require Republicans to cross the aisle and vote against their president. Never an easy thing. I think there's a very good chance that this summer or this September, there will be a veto-proof majority.

It's clear, however, that there is popular support for the impeachment of Dick Cheney.

If we started now, we might just get Cheney out of office by October 2008.

Original article: No apologies, Katie Couric!

It's not Katie

Though I guess she fell for it.

It's the fact that CBS has the Entertainment division in charge of News. It's the fact that the new program was designed not as news, but as raw meat for a younger demographic; the same way they designed Survivor, or any of the other increasingly worthless shows that network TV has on. Katie fell for it.

I'm not sure she ever was the Edward R. Murrow/Walter Cronkite/Dan Rather managing editor that CBS looked for in its "newsreaders," but the point is, management wasn't looking for that. I was surprised at how lame the whole mix was, and I actually thought better of Katie than that she would accept this dreck.
