One only need look at the tactics and crutches cynics use when disavowing the possibility of alien visitation on Earth.
Cynics tend to sound like they are trying to determine how many angels can dance on a pinhead.
They make lofty pronouncements based on flawed thinking. They overtly rely on Occam's Razor, oversimplfying the complexity of using such an imperfect crutch, one that is often WRONG. They lack imagination and foresight, so it is plausible for them to state utter nonsense about the vastness of space and the difficulty reaching across it. Columbus could not have imagined flying (FLYING!!) to America on a 747 within mere hours rather than on an ancient rickety wooden vessel that took weeks or months, and yet it only happened five centuries ago. Electronics to them would have looked like magic.
Mostly cynics seem to relish digging in, like moles, as if their minds are so weak that they might shatter were reality to infect them.
So these clowns like to laugh at the rubes. They like to showoff what few factoids they know about space or about logic or statistics. They like to rely on KNOWN GOVERNMENT OPERATIVES for their evidence (evidence that amounts to nothing more than barren statements, blissfully free of facts to support them). So they baldly state and restate tired old tropes, as if repetition will make it reality, by known paid government disinfo agents such as Sagan and Fermi.
The cynics live in their hermetically sealed world.
Meanwhile, people constantly witness and report unknown unknowns, photograph them, speculate over them, wonder why the government engages in mental gymnastics to deny these people's testimony, etc. (it is categorically UNTRUE that there are not more photos being taken today, with more cameras around, than there were decades ago. A cursory look at UFO websites will show multiple photos posted DAILY, something that never happened decades ago)
In the REALITY BASED WORLD, outside the dancing angel pin fantasies of the sophists, hundreds of thousands of noted figures in military, government, professional circles have filed reports or kept the information to themselves, only releasing it to trusted friends and relatives. I have been told astounding stories that I (only years later) was able to cross check and verify and which had turned out to be true, as unbelievable as the stories themselves were.
What people keep forgetting is that if it is intelligently guided, the UFO phenom is dealing with INTELLIGENCES assumedly far smarter than us humans, intelligences who also have their own agendas, time schedules, knowledge, motivations.
So, to try to outwit them, you can try to ask silly questions like why they have not landed on the White House lawn, but to do that you would have to assume you could understand their motivations. Does an ant or cow comprehend what an automobile is?
When you take the sorry tactics and crutches the cynics use and compare them to the REALITY BASED world, you get the situation similar to the ROUT that occurred when Seth Shostak and Bill Nye got their asses handed to them on the Larry King show when they painted themselves into a corner against a group of military guys who had a compelling story and evidence to back it up (AND all alternative explanations had been discounted).
Ultimately, these cynics are not fair minded people, though they like to portray themselves as such, so I feel sorry whenever someone is dunned into trusting these clowns' bad judgements, ones that are inevitably based in the same hypocritical and false sophistry as those who used to think the Earth was flat and at the center of the universe.
I would say the cynic clowns' days are soon over, but until aliens CHOOSE to deliberately show themselves in an unmistakable fashion, as if that is even POSSIBLE, then these clowns will continue to be granted an audience and will continue to misdirect people.
