Let's all stop kissing Russ Feingold's ass as if he's some sort of principled lover of our Constitution. He is, after all, one of the chief sponsors of the McCain-Feingold Act, which limits your rights to petition the government....

    Typo there. Should be:

"He is, after all, one of the chief sponsors of the McCain-Feingold Act, which limits your rights to bribe and buy the government."

    No charge for the help.

"Money corrupts. Heaping scads of money corrupts completely." (to bring and old saw up-to-date)

    Cheers,

    More interesting is this....

[Glenn]: I conducted an interview today with Michael O'Hanlon of the Brookings Institution about his views on the war and his trip to Iraq. I will post the transcript in a couple of days along with some thoughts about it.

I wonder why the unabridged version isn't available somewhere, and why a few days to think about it are needed.

Ummm, because ... oh ... yeah ... Glenn never said he was waiting a couple days "to think about it". He explained -- in terms that even the hard-of-thinking ought to be able to pick up on:

"[On an unrelated note, the interview I conducted with O'Hanlon will be published in a couple of days. He and I agreed that I would only write about the interview with a full, unedited transcript attached. It was a long interview -- he provided some answers, even to simple and direct questions, that were 3-5 mintues long -- and it is going to take a little more time before the transcript is ready]."

See, now that wasn't that hard, was it? Well, then again, perhaps ... if you're the troll they call "shooter042".

The only difference between the two positions I can tell, is that Gates says he would tell Musharraf before they unilaterally attacked, and Obama might or might not. Big difference.

We gave a "courtesy call" to Pakistan when we sent cruise missiles over Pakistan on the way to Afghanistan (which may not be all that bad an idea, seeing as both Pakistan and India have nukes, and a strange missile flying over one might set off events that spiral out of control ... beside it's being common courtesy).

But the flip side is that it's possible that word of the missiles coming was passed to bin Laden. Some in Pakistan are not entirely unfriendly to bin Laden, including in the military, the intelligence community, and the government.....

On a slightly different subject, even if Musharraf is told in advance, we might not want to "officially tell him", just to save him some trouble (if that is what we want to do, that is).

    Cheers,

We just redirect "shooter" (and "bucky1" too, for that matter) to the below site. Through the wonders of modern technology, and the mmiracle of modern AI science, our back is covered:

In his press conference today, the Deciderator-in-Chief basically proved beyond doubt the accuracy of Glenn's central claim in "A Tragic Legacy": That Dubya has an absolutist, Manichean Weltanschauung....

If you don't read the book, just listen to the last sixty seconds of the press conference.

[Glenn, from the post]: While American citizens inside of the U.S. still enjoy robust civil liberties as compared to most other countries around the world -- certainly nobody rational would compare the tyranny of a country like Libya to the state of domestic political affairs inside the U.S. -- one cannot say the same for our behavior as a world actor. In that regard, such comparisons are not only plausible but indisputably valid. And to prove that, try to imagine anything more ridiculous or laughable than George Bush standing up today and condemning the Libyan Government for its treatment of detainees in its custody.

"But ... but ... but ... Libya tortured innocent doctors and nurses. We're just interrogating actual Terra-ists to prevent another 9/11...."

I would be shocked, or at least I hope I am shocked when I hear GG champion that as a legitimate tool of foreign relations.

I would also be shocked. And dismayed. And betrayed. However, all is sunny and wunnaful, as Glenn has never even suggested such a thing.

    (2) "Bloggers," for better or worse, are being viewed with much more credibility now. As a result, access to establishment media organs is increasing and will continue to increase. They can no longer ignore it, and their only real option is to begin to include it. I am more than confident that (most) bloggers will not dilute their message in exchange for this sort of access....

    ... then there's Ed Morrissey....

    Gee...

another Salon article drawing moral equivilancy between the U.S. and a dictatorship/terrorist. What a surprise.

Care to differentiate the cases? I mean, beyond the Manichean obvious "white hats goods, black hats bad"?

    Cheers,
