I hadn't followed any of Jake007's other posts outside this thread, so I was unaware of what other things he'd said. I proferred my thanks as a gesture of recognition and appreciation for military service. If he didn't serve, that's unfortunate that he claimed such, but I had to give the benefit of the doubt. I even thanked Harold DePalma for his military service, and I think that guy's a scumbag. If there's evidence Jake007 didn't serve, I'll retract. Ultimately, I'll probably never know for sure, but that thanks was independent of what I may think of the poster's points or stances.

I have no evidence he didn't serve. Others at ThinkProgress were sceptical. We do have evidence aplenty that he's a Republican tool, and dishonest as the day is long (his claim to be an "independent" despite his lapses into "we" in the heat of the debate, ferinstance). That does make one look for more that just assertion when a claim is made, particularly when such a claim is interjected immediately as a measure of one's own bona fides.

    Cheers,

    Re: "Jake"

    There's mention in this thread:

    http://thinkprogress.org/2007/04/11/thinkfast-april-11-2007/

around comment #70, and this thread:

    http://thinkprogress.org/2007/04/05/pelosi-syria-prove-it/#comments

at comment #170 et seq. (see particularly comments #183 and #195) of "Jake"'s service record. Comment #183 seems to be "Jake" in style getting caught at namejacking.

    Cheers,

    <IGNORE> "Jake007" </IGNORE>

I mean it, folks. Not even worth the bother of ridicule. And that's the last I'll say on him (look at page 13 of previous thread for details).

I mean, c'mon. In the annals of trollery, that's pure comedy gold.

I found it hilarious (as well as quite revealing) myself ... but you folks should give me a pat on the back and an "attaboy"; I managed to exercise unusual restraint for an opportunist like myself, and held off jumping all over it ... to go along with my new-found convictions on Trolliquette. Enjoy it while it lasts; I'm not sure whether I have the fortitude to hang on for too much longer ... certainly in the face of so magnanimous an invitation.

    Uhm...No

    Sick 'em!

In "Jake"'s case, it would be like going after a chunk of aerogel with a shotgun, his offerings are so evanescent (outside the "pure gold" comedic value of his less guarded emissions). Lots of noise, and a heck of a kick, but ultimately leaving things pretty much as they were despite interrupting any actual conversations nearby that might be taking place.

I'll leave the sport to others, in his case.

But he seems to have wandered off. One can hope, at least.

Toddle over to Atrios or Crooks and Liars. It's the same 20 people all screaming the same thing over and over every day and congratulating one another for how wonderful they all believe themselves to be. Ok that's fine. But it's not exactly elevating.

In any case the fact remains. Most blogging, and this column is a great example of that, are not about news or information at all.

You mistake the comments for the post. Simple distinction, but it seems to be beyond you. "Toddle over to [...] Crooks and Liars", pop a beer and enjoy the pretty pikshurs. After all, I can see that -- noting your disdain for "opinions on opinions on opinions...." (to which your tendered ... your own opinion) -- you prefer to just have stuff shoved at you. The Colbert and Olberman archives at C&L oughtta do the trick....

You want "content" as opposed to "analysis" and "commentary", BTW, ThinkProgress.org and Buzzflash.com are good compendia of links to the MSM and other sources....

The 'content' as you note is rarely more than someone's comment about a news story. Or better yet the news story itself. Often it's nothing more than a link to a clip from the Colbert Report.

But that's more than you offer here. But FWIW, I've just given you the links. What you do with them is your problem. You can lead a horse's a$$ to water....

At any rate there's nothing wrong with blogs onlt a fool would deny that a tiny number of them are worth anything at all and virtually all of them are of pathetically low quality. They might as well be MySpace pages.

You should do your posts earier in the day and your drinking later. But lost in the befuddlement and confooziiiion there, there's a gem of truth: There are a few blogs that would be immensely improved with a little less dross. You can help out by absconding to the Eedjitarian Rottwieler's site or the Deuce of Clubs' den (going to Instahack or A$$rocket's blog won't help; like most prominent RW blogs, they don't allow comments). It's a "win-win" situation; you'd be raising the collective IQ of both this blog and the destination.

    Holly McLachlan]: I miss Billmon.

I miss him too. He's a virtuoso at verbal jiu jitsu, taking the words of his targets and turning them against themselves in a lethal manner.

His style is different than Glenn's: more sparse and less discussion, but it gets the point across clearly, and in an emphatic manner.

I can only hope that he's just taking some well-deserved rest from the constant struggle against the rampant brownshirts and eedjits of the RW, and that he catches his breath and comes back to rejoin the struggle. Maybe even a book; would be nice to see.

Maybe if Glenn has his contact info, Glenn can convey our thanks and good wishes, along with some encouragement.

    Cheers,
