[Jack]: What was your understanding, that CK was requesting that we all travel back through time and handle this differently? Yes, that makes much more sense, you idiot.

[Arne]: No, you moron. That's your interpretation (or should we say, "straw man"?)....

I assume point conceded (or "straw man" burnt, as the case may be).

[Arne]: ... I was pointing out that his request is prescriptive ... and it is in no way limited to only other tragedies (nor would such be logical).

    Future tragedies, not other tragedies....

Newsflash for the brain-damaged here: I said "no[t] ... other tragedies". Capice? Why is it OK for this one then?

... If I make a request, do I have to specify that the request applies from this point forward ...

Well, if you're making the rules up as you go along, and they don't apply to your own previous behaviour, I suppose not.

... or do you think people can figure that out for themselves, even if they have to mentally walk through the steps of being incapable of backward time travel? I would rather let them figure that out for themselves than explicitly say from this point forward every time I made a request....

So, new rules it is, then.

... Or, if I'm wrong about this, exactly how do you suggest we apply CK's request to the VT massacre?

Ignore it. He's an eedjit and a hypocrite (not to mention another Dubya-butt-sucker). Not at all the kind of person I take advice from. You're free to make your own decision, of course.

[Arne]: Just to bring you back to within spitting distance of reality (if such is possible), here's Krauthammer's actual words, from the post: "What can be said about the Virginia Tech massacre? Very little. What should be said? Even less."

See my reply to Glenn. And I'll ask you your own question. Are you hard of reading, sir?

Nitpick all you want about "nothing" versus "less". He obviously thinks there ought to be limits (for some people, at least). I'd note that this was part of his prescription (and part of his criticism of Obama). Funny he doesn't apply it to himself.

As far as 'winning converts' goes, Arne, you couldn't hold your own at my dinner table, let alone 'convert' anyone with an education....

ROFL. Another brave and resourceful soul, just like John Derbyshire and Nathaniel Blake, eh? Let's see you work your "conversion" magic over in Iraq. Hell, either way we win: You convert 'em all to laissez faire Republicans and everyone lives happily ever after, or they shoot you and eat you. Win-win all around.

... I'm not here to convince anyone of anything, and unlike you, I'm not under the delusion that there are uneducated masses looking to internet commenters to show them how to think.

Then WTF are you here for? Do you have some ... uhhh, "peculiar needs" ... that need to be fulfilled? I'd suggest www.comeflogmesomemoreplease.com might be quicker in getting yu to where you want to go.

    Cheers,

The point is to turn them into what they rightly are: objects of ridicule and scorn.

<*SIGH*> Yeah. <*trudge-trudge*> A guys work is never done...

If anyone has watched one of the tens and hundreds of thousands of people who play MMORPGs dealing with insertion missions, alien hunts, et al. (to not use any specific trademarks), have you ever watched the winners, either in their avatars or in person, when they have won some games? Not a lot of difference, or from the poses in the mercernary magazines (as another posted noted) that you can still find in some stores, and have been for many years. So if the poses remind you of the jihadists, they took them from us in the first place.

I noted that over at Balkin's blog:

    Anonymous said:

Yesterday a convicted terrorist was released from a federal prison in New Mexico on 350,000 bail to await an immigration trial, his name is Luis Carrilles and he worked for the CIA when daddy bush was the director of the CIA in 1975 and the same time he blew up a cuban national airplane killing many people.

We usually refer to people that blow up planes with bombs, killing hundreds of civilians, as "terrorists".

Both Cuba and Venezueala have requested that Posada be turned over for trial there.

But a U.S. judge to deport him, because .... <*wait for it*> ... we don't turn over accused terrorists to countries where they may be tortured.

You'd think this was an poorly written, far-fetched Onion article....

I don't need to speak for Krauthammer. Here's a quote Glenn didn't highlight in his post:

"But it is simply dismaying that a serious presidential candidate should use it as the ideological frame for his set-piece issues."

CK isn't running for President. He's not even a politician.

Ahhhh. Only politicians (indeed, "serious presidential candidates") need obey. More "ex post facto law" from Jack/Hammer. Calvinball's the game today.

We did away with "ex post facto" a couple centuries ago. Tell you what, Jack, enlist for Iraq (as I suggested) and maybe you'll catch the tail end of it over there....

[Hobbes]: Timeline!, timeline!, Calvin. Same day is not equal to 48 hours later!

[Calvin, placing thumb in his mouth]: Stop eating retard sandwiches and try to focus.

    OK?

This Jack guy is an idjit. A complete drooling imbecile. It's a dirty job to keep these wacknuts in line, but it's fun to see you do it.

Jack, despite my protestations to the contrary above, is actually kind of fun. He gives me so much to work with ... no only in terms of skewering him deftly, but also hopefully giving everyone else a good chuckle.

    Cheers,
