    Arne and Bullsmith,

Ah yes, the truth about Islam. I know it's a sacred cow to even address the liberal orthodoxy that Islam is a religon of peace that has been hijacked by radicals (come to think of it, Bush says the same thing.) Rather than argue by assertion, I'll share with you some news from... well, from today.

You know, I could just substitute "Christianity" for Islam.....

Remember the six imams who were removed from the US Airways flight for intimidating the crew and passengers? They have filed suit, which of course was the point of that whole street theater to begin with. But the really chilling thing is that they are suing the airline and the passengers who they terrified. So not only did they get to swagger on the airplane, chanting and fanning out across the plane, they now get to continue their campaign against Americans by introducing them to a legal nightmare. Read the whole story here: http://www.startribune.com/191/story/1055656.html.

Wow! Horrors! "Terra-Ism Through Legal Process Decided By A Jury Of One's Peers"! What will those fiendish Mooooooslims come up with next? As for "intimidating rge crew and passengers", I'm sure they'll get their just punishment as soon as their assault trial reaches a conclusion ... oh ... wait ... they weren't charged with any crime. Nevermind.

Seriously nasty, and this is the face of mainstream Islam in America.

Imagine the inconvenience of having to watch someone pray, eh? Those poor passengers. I'd suggest that court-ordered lobotomies might resolve any further problems going forward.

... The imam who served as the spokesman during the original incident leads a mosque in Arizona, ...

    Horrors!!! Merci!

... and was in a bit of controversy before September 11 by defending two Muslims who were investigated by the FBI for dry-running an airline hijacking. This is what is really happening with Islam in America, gentlemen.

    Huh?

Ugh, this is seriously off topic. I'll justify it by repeating my desire that Democrats and Republicans learn to treat each other civilly, as people with varying political philosophies, and not as enemies....

Why, we should all flow your example above, eh?

... Americans really do have enemies and it is wise to remember that from time to time. Or maybe you don't care about the Americans who are enduring the soft terrorism of the Council on American-Islamic Relations and their friends (remember, that is mainstream Islam in America)?

    "soft terrorism"?!?!?

PS Arne, sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm no Republican. Oh dear, there go most of your ad hominems.....

Ummmm, I think I see your problem, Golden Wanker: You're too f*cking stoopid to read. I didn't call you a "Republican".

    Cheers,

    Presbyterian suicide killers....

....aren't a problem. Muslim killers are.

Ummm, what religion was Tim McVeigh? Jes' curious. How about Rudolph? Kopp? Hill? ....

[Golden Wanker]: Clearly my comments about the ad hominems were not directed at you, but rather at the hysterical folks like Arne who are flummoxed by the idea of actually having to articulate their beliefs.

Strangely enough, GB here doesn't address the fact I didn't call him a "Republican" (as if that's an " ad hominenm") despite his assertion that I did, nor the fact that I had no problems "articulat[ing]" my points. Being "flummoxed" himself, he pretends I'm "hysterical" and thus dismisses any honest obligation to respond to the substance of my points. How typical of the RW foamer contingent. Which, of course, merits the appellations I bestow on him ... and the title above.

    Cheers,

  • A suggestion, if I might...

[Glenn, from the post]: I assume (or at least hope) that Congressional Democrats realize that getting actual, truthful information is going to take more than just a letter or even a subpoena, but at the very least, their ability to demand information keeps these stories alive and enables further inquiry.

    I hear waterboarding works wonders....

From the DOJ's document, this gem:

"... see also Legal Authorities Supporting the Activities of the National Security Agency Described by the President 30-34 (Jan. 19, 2006) (“Legal Authorities”)."

Is this exactly the same block of cases that Bart used to trot out ad infinitum, with the addition of the last case from 2006?...

    Yes.

... What does that 2006 case state?

I don't think it's a case cite. I think it's a reference to a "white paper" or OLC type opinion brief.

    More Old school

Consistent with U.S. reservations to the Convention Against Torture and the Senate resolution ratifying the Convention, it is the established policy of the United States not to expel, extradite or otherwise effect the involuntary return of any person to a country in which it is more likely than not that the person would be subjected to torture.

The arrogance and gall of this administration, and in particular, in light of all of these recent revelations, the Justice Department and Mr. Gonzalez, is completely breathtaking.

    I mean, what was this:

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/01/21/60II/main594974.shtml

if not "...[expulsion], [extradition], or ... the involuntary return of ... [a] ... person to a country in which it is more likely than not that the person would be subjected to torture..."?

You missed that little qualifier there: "Consistent with U.S. reservations...."

    Cheers,

    William Timberman:

Short of another 9/11, or an eyes-shut, all out, devil take the consequences attack on Iran, I'm of the opinion that they're more likely to end with a whimper than a putsch....

I'm thinking they'll "rage, rage against the dying of the Right...."
