I am proud to live in a country that ever since 1775, when Gen. George Washington said:

Should any American soldier be so base and infamous as to injure any [prisoner]. . . I do most earnestly enjoin you to bring him to such severe and exemplary punishment as the enormity of the crime may require. Should it extend to death itself, it will not be disproportional to its guilt at such a time and in such a cause… for by such conduct they bring shame, disgrace and ruin to themselves and their country. - George Washington, charge to the Northern Expeditionary Force, Sept. 14, 1775

has refused torture detainees, and has exercised its high moral authority to abide by the Rule of Law . . . except when it hasn't . . . now move along, there's nothing to see here . . .

@notorbitboy: And I bet you're an asshole!!!

Woo-hoo!!!! I win.

Because that was THEM, and we is US!!

See, when the evil Germans or the sneaky Japanese or the Chinese hordes or the godless Koreans conduct "enhanced interrogations" they are doing so in support of their EVIL system. When we God-fearing and upstanding Americans torture, er, interrogate enhancedly, we do so in order to bring the full benefits of our Constitution, the Rule of Law and the sanctity of heterosexual marriage to all of the benighted lesser peoples of the world.

So its not a bad thing, mmmmmm-kay?

If the psychologists had a SHRED of integrity, they wouldn't have had to "second guess" themselves...

because they never would have gotten involved in the first place. I can only attribute the difference between the reaction of psychiatrists and psychologists in this matter to the Hippocratic Oath, i.e., first, do no harm.

I'm sure there is some way for these psychologists to rationalize their behavior or to overcome the considerable cognitive dissonance created by being torture enablers, likely the excuse the tortured detainees were not their clients, the CIA/Torture Guild WAS.

@NotOrbitBoy and other idiots . . . re: Krauthammer

Every time you quote this pathetic twisted excuse for a human, be aware he sits in that wheel chair because he dove head first into a swimming pool without first ascertaining it contained water.

His own recklessness landed him in the chair, and the self-loathing generated as a proximal result thereof has tainted every cubic centimeter of his brain.

The fact he can't forgive himself makes him unable to wean himself from his fascination with exceptionalism.

Sad story.

@NotOrbitBoy: I'm your next door neighbor.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

Original article: Quote of the day

Apparently Steele would like some good old fashioned Dred Scott kind of judges...

...somebody who wouldn't show too much empathy for the underdog ...a Chief Justice Roger B. Taney kind of guy.

Friday, May 8, 2009 02:44 PM

@NotOrbitBoy: As you have admitted you're too much of a simpleton to understand the complexities of the Geneva Conventions . . .

how about we give you something a little simpler . . . something so simple even the Alzheimered Ronald Reagan could read and sign: the Convention Against Torture:

For the purposes of this Convention, the term "torture" means any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person . . .

No exceptional circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, internal political in stability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture...

An order from a superior officer or a public authority may not be invoked as a justification of torture.

See, no big words, easy to understand: No exceptional circumstances...may be invoked as a justification of torture...

So easy, even a simpleton can understand it.

Thre is apparently a CIA report from 2003 - 2004

that will demonstrate Cheney's addled fantasies about saving hundreds of thousands of lives are as far out of touch as he is on every other issue facing our nation.

Monday, May 11, 2009 09:23 AM

@NotOrbitBoy: Dude, you just never get tired of being a clueless asswipe, do you?

You should really learn to read [regarding the CIA

briefings of Congress]:

The CIA cannot vouch for the complete accuracy of details in a memo outlining who was briefed on the CIA’s “harsh interrogation”. In a letter from CIA chief Leon Panetta to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Silvestre Reyes and ranking House Intelligence Republican Pete Hoekstra, Panetta says the information about the briefings is taken from the “best recollections” of those who were there.

"Best recollections" from CIA briefers on orders from Dickhead Cheney? The WMD/yellowcake/Iraq-al-Qaeda/mushroom cloud/aluminum tube/mobile chemical lab CIA?? Is that the CIA we're talking about?

Why did bloated shit bag Rush Limbaugh doctor shop and receive multiple prescriptions for Oxycontin?

Cheney is a liar, a bully and a coward, BUT

he may succeed in his truly evil plan if the Obama administration does not give him what he has coming: indictment, trial conviction and incarceration for ordering and enabling torture.

Cheney's 5 deferments and support or the war in Vietnam leave little doubt as to his physical cowardice, but he is a ruthless and relentless bureaucratic infighter.

His machinations to land Halliburton $27,000,000,000.00 in no-bid Pentagon contracts, increasing the value of his stock options from $250,000 to $8,000,000.00 (a profit of about $2,000.00 per dead GI) leaves no doubt as to his venality.

Based upon the legislation Cheney and Bush forced thru Congress, Obama literally has the power to declare Cheney an enemy combatant, slip a black burlap sack over his head, fly him to Gitmo, and detain him until; his death without benefit of habeas corpus or the right to trial.

A grand idea; a public trial and exposure of all the facts about torture would better serve the Republic.
