Again though to the question at hand
[Read the article: John McCain's Arab-American problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What specific issue is Dr. Cole trying to address? It's not so much that McCain (or anyone else for that matter) has an Arab American problem is that's Dr. Cole's Arab Americans aren't really sufficiently organized in a way that addresses their unique issues.
True, and if it's as Dr. Cole asserts merely a lot of hot air about those goddamn Zionists, then yeah, I guess Arab Americans have a problem; not just with McCain but with the majority of Americans. After all even St. Obama hasn't declared world peace and an end to all American armies everywhere, yet. Or if the issue is first and foremost Arab-o-phobia then that too is bigger than any candidate. I suppose the rest of us who have been here a generation or two or 9 can appreciate the whole "No Dogs No Irish" sentiment of it, but that's what it is and every immigrant group has had to put up with it along the way. I don't think a candidate is going to remediate that for them.
So given that, what problem is it Dr. Cole believes is something that can be addressed by a candidate? Or is it something else? Is Dr. Cole merely saying that McCain will lose BECAUSE there are a lot of Arabs in Michigan? I would say Dearborn has bigger problems now, like the auto industry.

[Read the article: Why gas is so expensive]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But that's a silly argument. In EU nations the price of gas is driven by enormous taxes. For which people ostensibly get something back. Even in Norway which is itself a huge oil producer and exporter the state charges high taxes on gas specifically to underwrite their social welfare programs. The taxes on gas in the US are much much lower and even that, go to god knows what. Typically waste or the 'general fund' or keeping more coffee cup clasping shovel leaners employed 'fixing' the very roads you're indirectly being charged to drive on.
For instance my state gas tax is almost 30 cents a gallon. The end result of which is that there basically zero roads that are not under construction or repair, forever.
PS this has the added benefit of creating tens of thousands of 'work zones' for which traffic violations are 2, 3, 10x higher fines thereby creating the single largest revenue stream in the state.

It will never happen.
[Read the article: Still waiting for Madam President ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's the democrats themselves who object the loudest. They will always find a reason for saying 'some better qualified candidate will be found." To the Obama liberals, there's always a good reason to exclude women from the big table. Women are fine as govs, or keynote speakers or the occasional Senator but President? Nope. It will never happen with the current DNC leadership and the general tenor of the voters who support them.

bigguns
[Read the article: Why gas is so expensive]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But that's really besides the point at hand. For example Iran the holy sainted peaceful country that all Salon comrades want to move to, produces only 20% of its own gasoline even though it's one of the largest oil exporters in the world and their claims about peaceful nuclear power fall flat because by their own admission those nuke plants have no visible means to generate electricity at all. So it would seem that logic and self interest contravene ideology.
