The PRC has dragged several hundred million people out of penury in only 20 years
[Read the article: No more plastic bags, no more jobs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I understand, and so do they, that it's not all aromatherapy, and magical unicorns for everyone but it's pretty damned impressive. Easy for the editorial staff of Salondotcom in San Fran to pout and scream that people living on $2500/year should be grateful to live at that level forever lest they corrupt Mother Earth and perish the thought that any more Chinese should ever not have to live in the same squalorous shack as their hogs because that would mean they're all big bad evil capitalists.
No one, and let me repeat that, NO ONE will do thing one about the environment when their own people need those precious resources to live and eat and develop. If you and a billion of your neighbors were poor, even by 19th Century standards and you watched your government toss all their money into Western Green Friendly projects with a payback in maybe 30 years, I bet you'd be pretty angry. Or maybe you'd just be too poor and hungry to care either way.

If Obama challenged Hillary to a Yo Mama contest
[Read the article: Bowling for Pennsylvania]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You can bet Salon would have published at least 3 articles on the cultural and political vitality and necessity of that.

In the US the law is rather unsure of this point
[Read the article: Who's your daddy? ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In many states if the man believes himself to be the father and later finds out he is not, then legally it makes no difference, he's the father, financially at any rate. In terms of legal rights, the courts are a little vague on that so far.
So if determining parentage is important for you to decide whether to sue for termination of child support, that's an uphill fight. If your driver is whether to sue for more visitation, well that's more or less been decided already.
The only role this can have in most states is whether you do or do not have grounds for a divorce with cause e.g. one that does not require a year of legal separation first. And in the 7 or 9 states which still have alienation of affection laws, it could possibly mean you have grounds to sue your soon to be ex wife's new man or ex-new-man civily for damages.
If you're a bunch of primates on Maury and you have 3 kids by 3 different men and you're pregnant again and you don't know which of the last dozen or so guys you banged is the father and all of them have gaggles of bastards by different skank hos, then what's really the difference? Everyone involved is still going to be ghetto/trailer bride scum.

One thing that is falling away is that old school habit on TV of letting one person talk at a time
[Read the article: Is the Internet eroding America's Puritanism -- or making it worse?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I had on CNBC yesterday @ 7pm EST and the Kudlow show is 30 minutes of 5 people shouting over each other for all 30 minutes.

[Read the article: No more plastic bags, no more jobs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Higher sunk costs = longer ROI, it's axiomatic. If it were not, everyone would do it. Trust me, Progress energy, Duke power, Alcoa are not resisting going green for the hell of it. We here in the US have smokestack scrubbers not because it's a nice thing to do but because the EPA says they have to have them. And the concept of retrofitting grees tech on top of old tech is fantastically expensive. Sorry but that's just the real world. Green proponents seem to be constantly amazed that this is the case and resist all attempts at incremental improvements.

Then the capital they require OF US, to build up their infrastructure it would be enormously expensive for them
[Read the article: The audacity of free trade ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]sure, you can require that all factories in China pay the equivalent of a German auto worker union wage but you're going to be the one either to pay for it in capital costs through inflationary borrowing, or, you're going to be one to pay 4 or 5 or 10x for that same object that you do now. I'm sure the Salon readers will assert from the get go that they simply would do without, but you should read all the labels in your house and tell me which of the thousands of products you won't have and/or can't afford. I would have no problem if you paid $20 for toothpaste. But if you want to destroy the middle class in America, you couldn't think of a better way than that.

There are lots of them in Raleigh, NC (and Hondas too)
[Read the article: Record gas prices equal record Prius sales]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But as I'm sure you know, we no shoes wearin god fearin hillbillies put whale oil V-10 engines in them and paint rebel flags on the roof.
One would think, even if it's true, that the hippy posers in Oakland would take the damn bus. Or ride their Jerusalem Cruisers (Birkenstocks).

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Obama isn't F---ing anyone or anything. Neither do his followers since they're like the Marshal Applewhite's purple comet cult of suicidal eunuchs.

[Read the article: I'm 21 and addicted to pot -- but I'm doing just great!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And tell as many people as you can to smoke up. I have 2 kids in college and another in 18 months and it's a cold hard competitive world out there. Anything you can do to thin the herd would be appreciated. Thank you.
