All through the Arafat years, his approach was to demand everything instantly now, everything plus 5 million percent more, knowing that it was an insane prospect and would be rejected. Why? Because Arafat never wanted statehood. He wanted tyranny and power. He wanted to enslave his own people so he could steal from them. Waving an AKM over your head and screaming for the blood of Jews is more romantic, and easier than actually running a state and doing all the mundane chores like picking up the trash, paving the roads and running the post office.
In the end it won't matter - you could wave a magic wand over the west bank and make it aVulcan's Juden free palestinian paradise, cleansed of its 450,000 Jews or roughly 30% of the total population they'd still scream it isn't enough. Jewish presence isn't the problem for them, Jewish existence is.

I've never been able to figure that out: people who say "We suffered" and turn around and do everything in their power to slip their necks in the noose again for the shear thrill of hoping to be loved by the very people trying to kill them.
