  • Well it's for sure that when Obama wins

[Read the article: A pivotal day for the Democrats?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

He'll go back in time and end the Iraq war 3 years ago. Or maybe not, maybe we'll still be there in 2011-12 regardless because vague terms like 'judicious' are not the same thing as a plan. In either case what will the Oblamazoids here say to that? Will the fumble and excuse it, call it a strategic genius move, the second coming? What? It's just that when you set up your candidate to cure poverty end hunger create world wide peace and such, anything less than that is bound to be construed as failure. See in the end Obama, if he is a pragmatist, hasn't really explained his pragmatism. Maybe it's there maybe it's not. But all this hope and well wishing and PR is a great thing to get elected but not so good for action plans. Anyway, I do hope that the US is out of Iraq soon and by soon I don't mean 'soon', as in who knows? Which is what I get from him. Or, if it really takes 90% of Congress to get your own way then set that out as a precondition because the last two years have been for shit and while the Dems might pick up some seats in Nov is never seems to be enough for them, is it?

  • Oblamatrons run a risk

[Read the article: Obama is wrong about the gas tax]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Of being smeared with the label of people who utterly refuse to ever lower taxes on anyone anywhere at anytime. That is not politically wise.

We can all understand the populist ire at tax cuts for the wealthy but this token effort aimed at the middle class, is just that. Once Oblamatrons dig their heels and decide this small tax cut is also ideologically evil, well, you can see where this leads. You wind up as a caricature of the tax and spend liberal the right always smears you with.

  • So how big a majority does the Democratic party need?

[Read the article: Things that don't exist in Harry Reid's world]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

2 years and counting and less than nothing has improved. Now they're poised to gain a few more seats in both houses. Will that be enough? Who knows? Maybe the Democrats need a supermajority for every issue top to bottom, maybe they won't do a damn thing ever. I'm sure Salon's favorite boogeyman is the sole reason for all of this. Throw Joe down the well, then I'm sure it will all be AOK.

  • So again, what is the target?

[Read the article: Things that don't exist in Harry Reid's world]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

What would Dems need to do anything, anything at all? 60 seats in the Senate? 80? 300 in the House? Whatever it is it's always a little out of reach. Isn't blaming everyone else and the eternal Emmanuel Goldstein getting a little tired ?

Actually I was but I spend most of my time on Senate and local elections. Voting Democrat for President in NC is at best a symbolic gesture. And yes I do believe that Obama will not win NC. The black vote can only carry him so far and the radical enclaves in Chapel Hill and parts of Charlotte are only 'so' big.

First off Durham county isn't, what did you say? 90% Black. Durham is about 29% Black or a little more than the 22% of next door Wake county. The city of Durham is about 43% black (2000 census). But the city of Durham only has 187,000 people total vs 242,000 for the whole county.

Second, my racist moron, I work in Durham about 20% of the time. Please Please don't be telling me you know anything about me. You don't know anything about Durham so why should you know anything else you prattle on about.

You might have spent a little effort trying to understand why Elizabeth Dole might as well run unopposed in November. It seems that no one in the Democratic party is motivated to run against her and she's not even that well liked by her own GOP. Well the short answer is that NC is far more conservative than anyone running on Obama's coattails would find to be a successful strategy. In other words a successful Democrat down here has to be a centrist and there don't seem to be any around willing to risk it. It's not about race, it's about left vs. right.
