  • there is a currency deflator

[Read the article: Globalization gives Wall Street a boost]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If you are an American company and you bring foreign earned wealth back to the US you gain a benefit from a weak dollar. You also happen to get some tax breaks.

Also, if IBM is hiring in Brazil, India and China it's because of costs there.

For Caterpillar, some estimate that HALF of all heavy construction equipment is currently in the Arab Gulf States being utilized in massive construction projects that result from the largest transfer of wealth from the western states to the OPEC states, EVER, in the history of the world.

    So.....I guess that's good.

  • I would buy Mexico and have a trillion 5 left over

[Read the article: Antiwar site lets you spend $3 trillion your way]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    I would call it Robotanica

  • You should have such problems

[Read the article: Ugh, what did she do to herself?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"Hmmm what should I do to ensure I get that' $20 million role for 9 weeks work"

  • You've already made up your mind

[Read the article: The bisphenol A blues]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

all you're looking for is an excuse to spend some money to prove it. Elsewhere in Canada they've already 'proven' that the plastic used in commonly reusable water bottles will kill you. Never mind that there's little actual data, just the suggestion that the fearful nanny state has one more rule to micromanage is enough.

  • I'm a former NYr and even I'm stumped why Bloomberg is important

[Read the article: Obama picks up support from Bloomberg-ites]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Other than the Saloniks and KosKids who were practically promising a Bloomberg candidacy there are few in the US who even know who he is. And if they did, they'd hear "Jew who's the mayor of NYC - no thanks."

I think Saloniks are just green with envy that NYC has a better mayor than the Free Democratic People's Republic of SanFranistan.

  • They still teach 14th Century Italian poetry too

[Read the article: Women's studies, still alive and fist-shaking]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Not because it's useful but because someone wants to know. Or have a job teaching it to someone else at any rate.

  • It's been around for 50 years

[Read the article: The bisphenol A blues]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

So I'm sure Silenced is one of millions and millions of people seriously harmed by it. Couldn't be an interaction with tons of weed, could it?

  • I bought crack off Hillary once

[Read the article: Debating the debate, complaining about complaining]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Yeah she's that evil.

  • I applaud this

[Read the article: Are webmasters to blame?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I think we need draconian micromanagers and censors of everything because w/o the steel boot of some faceless committee of housewives on our throats, we would happily smoke meth with Satan while masturbating on a flaming pile of babies and bibles. And that would be bad.

  • That's nothing

[Read the article: When bananas ruled the world]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Those Frankincense and Myrrh dealers? They were brutal.

  • If it were unique it would be outrageous

[Read the article: The "bitter" vote]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

But Obama speaks for many Dems. Robert Reich agreed, so did Jon Stewart, so does James Carville. After the 2004 election, "What's the Matter with Kansas" was a best seller. Condescension is the watchword when it comes to Dems who believe they were denied their birthright. Not that that's bad after all, show me a multimillionaire who's gone to an Ivy and spent their adult life in the rarified corridors of power, of EITHER party and I'll show you someone who disdains to befriend the little people because its expected of them.

  • Just raise your glass and blame the Jews

[Read the article: Ken Pollack: Al Qaeda is a great "catch-all" term]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

No one ever got fired for that.

  • Well of course

[Read the article: The "bitter" vote]

You're all online, ground zero for malcontents.

  • Because the padron system feudalism they had before was so much better

[Read the article: When bananas ruled the world]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

up until recently, about 95% of the wealth of El Salvador was held by 1500 families in the country. That kind of padron system obviously was far superior to the Evil Gringo System.

  • Compared to what?

[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Snooty effete blogs have declared TV is mind bendingly stupid for years and years and years. And yet they review it all the time.

  • Good, I hope the police start using torture for ordinary crimes

[Read the article: This Modern World]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

At least then people will something to complain about.

  • Considering the energy used in auto manufacturing....

    [Read the article: Ask Pablo]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It is never better to buy a new car. Period. End of story.

Also, while this not related, something to consider. Imagine the Nanny State we will live in 6-7 years from now. Already EMS and police and fire departments all over the US are 'struggling' with crashes involving hybrid cars. Some have gone so far as to delay extricating people from their cars because of the perceived danger of the hybrids's electrical system. I for one would not prefer to die because the Nanny Apocalypse decided that hybrids are good yet rescuing people is 'too dangerous'.

  • I'm sure it doesn't matter either way

[Read the article: Bill Clinton's Golden Oldies act]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Every President accomplishes something between 0 and 20% of what they promise and some don't even promise that much. For my 20% I really couldn't care who gets the job. Oh it's a holy war here at Salon but one would expect that.

  • Think of it this way

[Read the article: The haunting of the Democrats]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Dems have a given percentage probability of doing what they usually do and shoot themselves in the foot. It wouldn't shock me if someone's VP choice is an ex Sadr city 'militant' who's also a lesbian and former heroin addict who openly talks about her 5 abortions.

But be that as it may, let's say the probability of that is 30%. If the Dems lose this election they might be finished as a national political party, forever, like Whigs. It wouldn't be the first time a political party made itself absolutely irrelevant in the name of ideology.

I think at this point, the Dems have to seriously consider viability as a party - actual survival. Because if they screw this up, and the chance of that is not trivial, then we are well on the way to a one party government for a generation or more.

  • Well thank the Lord

[Read the article: This Modern World]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That angry liberals and bloggers have successfully fought the evil regime and fixed all of the world's ills. I would hate to think they're wasting their time accomplishing nothing and letting the bastards get away with everything.

  • President MacGuffin

[Read the article: The haunting of the Democrats]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Is whatever you want him to be.

  • Do Salon liberals have to work?

[Read the article: The bosses used to monitor us on video from home]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I thought that sitting around the internet cafe and being malcontents was a paying job. You should get one of those gigs.

  • Yes of course Glenn

[Read the article: Bill Kristol, great man of sacrifice, on the duties of Passover]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That is the true message of Pesach. Keep the liberals boot on the throat of Israel, for peace. I'm pretty sure that's Devarim 25:12.

  • Again the Federal 14.8 cents a gallon tax won't make much difference either way.

[Read the article: McCain's gassy tax relief]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

State taxes are generally much higher. And at $3.50/gal that's a 4.2% discount. Not really something that's going to make me run out and consume. The retail price of gas went up more than that in the last 10 days.
