  • I CAN picture Lord Obama

[Read the article: Through a bong, darkly]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

In a dashiki preaching the word of peace and armed insurrection though.

  • Which universal principles would you like?

    [Read the article: Various items]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The ones that appoint Syria and Libya to the UN human rights commission? The one where Sudan successfully deflects all attempts to stop them from killing their own people en masse? The principles that allow western progressives to defend Iran's hanging of children in public w/o so much as a 'trial'? The universal principles of FARCoterrorism?

Seriously, I'd like to know which of those wondrous universal principles we need to implement?

  • I heard St Lord JesObama yesterday once again call for a wind down of troops

[Read the article: McCain's century-long problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

But he's not really saying how long that should take or when it should start. I suspect when The Chosen One is anointed we will suddenly hear a lot of fumfummery on how it's really not an opportune time to ditch and bail. This will of course cause all of you to defend that in terms of "Nation Building". I for one think we should ditch and bail ASAP. Just leave it and let them sort it out do whatever they wish with it. Parts of central Africa have been at war for 20 years claiming upwards of 5 million lives and you don't hear anyone worrying about we westerners rushing over to sort that out. Some problems are unmanageable.

  • Ok so war crimes trials for everyone then

    [Read the article: Various items]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Charles Taylor, Bokassa I, Idi Amin, Mobutu Sese Seko, the Khmer Rouge, the Duvalier(s), and many many many others either never saw or it's unlikely they ever will see the inside of a court. I think our purported high ideals and principles are rather overstated. In fact war crimes trials are the exception not the rule. And they tend to be enforced by the winners upon the losers. Even Curtis LeMay once quipped "If we lose. we'll be tried as war criminals".

  • Of course you have to understand that Salon is from San Fran

[Read the article: Through a bong, darkly]

And looks with longing glances across the Bay at Berkeley and thinks it's still the 60's. Newsflash, The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers was NOT a documentary.

  • There are so many chick fight beat downs on YouTube, this is just one more.

[Read the article: Don't blame YouTube, MySpace for teen beating video]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

And on similar sites like Cracked, College Humor, Unibrow, Gorilla Mask.....etc etc. Chick Fight Beat Downs are common. This one's no better or worse.

  • I hate all of you

[Read the article: Through a bong, darkly]

And if the asteroid strike was tomorrow, I'd throw a party.

  • Donut44

Gordon has proof of world wide Jewish perfidy for 911, fluoridation, crop failures, global warming and all wars.

  • Lots of oil is low quality hard to refine

[Read the article: North Dakota -- the next Saudi Arabia]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Venezuelan and Russian oil are both extremely high in sulfur making even the crude piping and transport end expensive and breakdown prone. In fact the $ amount quoted on stock pages each and every day is ONLY for the purest lightest easiest to recover crude oil a-la Saudi Arabia or Iraq. Most other oil is quoted at much lower prices.

We in the US get ~11% of our total crude from mid eastern OPEC states. Were we to reduce reliance, not need but reliance on that portion by 1%/year or about 200,000 barrels a day we could safely not worry about those states geopolitical levers nor would we be vulnerable to their ability to shift prices in just a few years.

And by the way, large offshore deposits from Brazil threaten to upset the power and influence of Herr Hugo Chavez in a few years. In fact the Brazilians are so serious about it they are buying 2 nuclear submarines from France to protect their interests. And this is a country that uses almost no crude oil for indigenous consumption. It will be interesting to see the petrodictators have to live in a world where hatred of their biggest customer, the US, doesn't really buy them much.

  • gar

[Read the article: North Dakota -- the next Saudi Arabia]

Brazil burns down several hundred square miles of rainforest ever day to make room for ethanol producing crops. Ouch.

  • I would have compared Obama to Jesus or Buddha

[Read the article: The problem with comparing Obama to Tiger Woods]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    His followers do.

  • So you're saying there are no economically viable options @ $110 a barrel.

[Read the article: North Dakota -- the next Saudi Arabia]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That's the part I'm not following. I understand the grammar nazis and nit pickers. This IS Salon after all. But it seems that what they're saying is that there are zero realistic alternatives at all. Ok then where's the break even point? $150? $250? $1,543 a barrel?

  • Why?

[Read the article: A look at Disney and Pixar's 3-D movie technology]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Aren't the stories crappy enough? Aren't all the actors who can't get sitcoms or movie gigs anymore already fully employed doing voice work in cartoons and commercials? Haven't we paid back Disney's investment in every animated feature since Snow White, yet?

C'mon this is bullshit. Now everything is going to be rapid cut flashing light rotating perspective fast talking nonstop breathless shit. I can hardly wait for Shrek IV-3D. Will there be a drug addled donkey? Will Shrek be ugly and green?

And while we're at it. Only 90% every single goddamn movie made in the last 6 years was made with a jittery handheld shaking nonstop underlit over contrasted out of focus manually and randomly shifting depth of field cell phone quality camera work. Muttered sound editing and no dynamic balance is just a bonus.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO MORE OF THAT. I BEG YOU PLEASE MAKE MORE MOVIES THAT LOOK LIKE A 11 YEAR OLD WENT TO BLAIR WITCH FILM SCHOOL.

  • Yes I'm sure China lays awake at night

[Read the article: Torching the Olympics]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Wondering if latte liberals by the bay like them. Tell you what - everyone boycott all Olympics hot held by for or at some broken down brown people country. That way our hearts are pure.

  • the last three movies I saw at a movie theater using digital projectors conked out

[Read the article: A look at Disney and Pixar's 3-D movie technology]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It stopped, the sound died or or a combination of both. I wound up with 6 free movie passes. Which I gave away as token gifts. So it's win win.

  • How dare they bring running water, electricity, mass transit and medicine to Tibet!!!

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

How dare they disassemble feudalism! I am, as a Liberal in good and fully paid up status officially outraged that I can no longer vacation in quaint primitive Tibet where middle age used to be 19. How dare progress mess that up. Why I will wear a black t-shirt and shake my fist at Nike!

  • Apocalypticism is very vogue now.

[Read the article: The IMF gets gloomy-doomy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Can you top this? Why I read a report that cannibalism will return to America this year.

  • I get it

[Read the article: Tom the Dancing Bug]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Science is silly and trivial and bad if pop science writers assert that through some process, called TV Sci-Fi physics, it can effectively destroy the known universe. Did you know that in England in the 1830's educated people knew that traveling on trains @ the ungodly speed of 50mph would kill people? Yes that speed was of course known to end life itself.
