"fully expecting to see net Neutrality read its last rights."
It's a metaphorical funeral, not a police line-up. Rites.
Otherwise, a pleasure to read.
can also be found in Lowell, MA.
I haven't read all of the >300 posts so far, so forgive me if someone has already asked this impolite question:
Will Sarah Palin's rejection of birth control lead, if the R's are elected, to another high-risk pregnancy while she's Veep? or dare I think it, Prez?
The possible ramifications are terrifying.
Or - pure speculation - did she head for an out-of-the-way hospital so she could quietly have her tubes tied so this wouldn't happen again?
None of my business, I know, except that my life and millions of others might be at stake.
The good part of Boston public transportation has already been mentioned.
But the bad part has to do with the much-publicized Big Dig. Originally the plans called for a rail link between North and South Stations. These stations are exactly what their names suggest: trains to and from the north or to and from the south go to them. There is no direct rail link. One can take the subway (MBTA), between them, but this requires a transfer. On and off of two more vehicles? With luggage? Up and down stairs? You've got to be kidding.
The originally planned rail link would have enabled continuous track from Florida to Maine. It was included as mitigation for tearing up the whole city for years on end. Naturally, when the cost overruns began, the rail link was the first thing to be scrapped. The opportunity is now long gone, because the long-term plan was sacrificed to cover current costs.
By the way, lawsuits are pending on shoddy construction, assorted padding, etc. Boston's money pit will go on forever, draining taxpayers' money from roads and bridges across the state, but that's another story.
Hey, Mitt, get your suit pressed and your hair done. You haven't thrown away that acceptance speech, have you?
also speaks for me.
please post a transcript.
also please think about people with slow connections, for whom viewing a video takes forever.
My choice - #2
..whatever darned things they hear.
Bwokobama from toddlers is a lot easier to take than those two Chinese kids singing about Prop. 8 in California. And that's not because of my political opinions either way.
Another problem at the junction of flying, TSA, security, luggage and immigration is the lack of a "transit" status in US airports. Foreign travelers are obliged to go through all the formalities of entering and leaving the USA even for a brief several-hour layover.
Many other countries have secure Transit areas, where passengers must stay between flights, eliminating their need for visas/waivers, customs, immigration, baggage re-checking and a second trip through security.
It would take a major policy overhaul and some architectural and airside reconfigurations, but the gains in efficiency and passenger satisfaction would be worth it.
So is the First Dude going to wear one of his fancy Needless Markup suits for the next Iron Dog race?
Sarah can't hog the press! That would make her a diva, which she has denied being.
Let's see whom the Gov. of IL appoints as a replacement.
"When I say it was a war of terror, that is not ideal talk. There were entire areas of Vietnam that were designated free fire zones."
shouldn't this be "idle talk"?
I live in Lexington, MA.
A local parent, David Parker, went ballistic when his elementary school child brought home a book about all kinds of families, including "two daddies." Parker dragged the town through state and federal courts, through appeal after appeal, all the way to the Supreme Court (Parker v Hurley), trying to shield his child from any mention of homosexuality in school, and trying to censor the curriculum.
The Town ultimately prevailed, but the time, expense and drain on its resources was considerable. The Parkers and another plaintiff couple, were of course bankrolled by anti-gay groups, many from out of state.
Any search on the court case leads you to right-wing websites screaming that Lexington is forcing little kids to be homosexuals, and similar ridiculous allegations.
Watch out for AFA and related groups. They can make life in your town miserable, even if they lose in court, and very expensive along the way.
Justice Souter, whom Sotomayor would replace, is also single and childless. But nobody made this a character issue for him. Double standard, indeed.

Ah, yes, my husband, the physicist, reported that in addition to being banned from Las Vegas for low consumption of alcohol, the conferences were also banned from some large hotels in NYC and other big cities because the physicists didn't patronize the prostitutes either! Also the grad students tended to double and triple up in rooms to save money. Altogether thoroughly undesirable guests. One thing leads to another, don'tcha know.
