@Aycharach
[Read the article: The John McCain "centrism" fallacy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hey, thanks for posting that link :-). I took the test and I'm right there with Gandhi (-3.00/-2.31) -- woohoo!
But how does that explain why my first choice for Prez is Clinton, followed by McCain?
Is the test wrong? Or is it maybe I see things that other people see? (which may be delusional things, of course, lol)
Of course, I'm a bit leery of the test because I don't know these people. But I do think myself to be within that general quadrant.
Cheers...

Take the test
[Read the article: Barack Obama, working-class hero?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Fester, brunnhilde, RealityCounts, et al..., take the test @ http://www.politicalcompass.org (thanks Aycharach!) and let us know where you stand. I'm really interested in knowing where you're coming from.
P.S. I took it and posted my results in Glenn Greenwald's latest thread. You may be surprised to know where I stand :-)

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Cool :-). So you _are_ Salon material after all, hehe. Funny, after skimming through some of your exchanges with the regulars I would have classified you as an "extreme right-winger". (TBH, I haven't paid much attention :-).
-
You too, dataguyx & KateTex
[Read the article: Barack Obama, working-class hero?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Take the test I mentioned and let us know your results. No excuses, now :-).

[Read more letters about this article: Here]True, true. Very interesting, though. I think that, since we are taking the same test, the built-in biases of the test are canceled out, giving a generally accurate view of our _relative_ positions vis-a-vis each other.
Which tells me that -- compared to me -- you're a DAMNED LEFTY!!!
Just kidding ;-)
-
Aaaaaargh.....
[Read the article: Barack Obama, working-class hero?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF LEFTIES!!!!
What am I doing here!!! I must be nutz!!!!
lol. ;-)
P.S. Thanks for making your results public. Maybe this will help us understand where everyone's coming from and we can have less heated conversations going forward :-).
Cheers...

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I posted your link in the thread re Obama as working-class hero (with proper attribution, of course) and a bunch of regulars are posting their results. You might want to take a look :-).

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks for the kind reply. You may not like me so much if you were to find out my political preferences for this election, though. So maybe you will want to take a deep breath before clicking on my letter history, where it's all laid out, in plain view.
In any case, I'm not ashamed of my views and will defend them at any time. It's the flaming and illogical comments/replies that drive me up the wall -- but those I just ignore.
So, until the next episode of this gripping political saga, I remain.
Respectfully yours,

[Read more letters about this article: Here]"The typical white person is racist, even if its just a little bit so."
Let's be honest here -- the typical _person_ is racist. Non-whites are _also_ racist. Prejudice and bigotry are part of human nature. And Blacks are human, too.
(egads, I actually hesitated before using the word "Blacks". This is where all this PC nonsense has brought us to? So sad...)

I love it...
[Read the article: FactCheck.org: Obama statement "a little too slick"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]At the beginning of this campaign, when not much was known about Big O, every one of his supporters were arguing that he was all about "Change"... that he would bring "Change" to our politics... that he was the "Breath Of Fresh Air" that was "Untainted" by Washington, etc.
Now they all agree that he is just another politician -- and willingly accept all the negative connotations that this implies -- as long as he is _better_ at it than H! Furthermore, they now _also_ argue that this _proves_ he is more qualified to be POTUS -- because he's _better_ at political maneuvering!
Ahhh... rationalization is such a sweetheart of hypocrisy.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]lol. Actually, I've already tuned out of this election. Just here for the yucks. It is what it is... and it will be what it will be. For myself, the bet has been made and all that remains is for the river to be flipped. I have more important things to worry about :-).

To all the Salon regulars...
[Read the article: The Great Depression: The sequel]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You know who you are :-). And you know me. The short explanation is: the USA has been digging itself deeper into this hole since the 70's. It has simply been living beyond its means. Back to reality, then. Belt-tightening by those who have to will be required, but that doesn't mean months of nothing but rice and beans. Just start sticking to a budget, if you aren't doing so already.
Over the long term the end result will be that the living standards in this country for the average American will decline for a while. For many it will hurt loads -- but they will be able to comfort themselves with the knowledge that they will still be better off than the great majority in the rest of the world. But it has to get worse before it gets better.
And for those who still don't understand how those oh-so-smart Wall Streeters dropped the proverbial straw that broke this camel's back, here's a simple explanation:

I can't believe it....
[Read the article: Hillary's bridge back to the 20th century]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"tom payne" actually posted something civil and sympathetic to a Clinton supporter -- and without veiled insults or snide remarks!!!
Something good might be happening on these boards, after all :-)
Of course, he'll probably come back with a diatribe against me afterwards -- but that would just be a return to form, lol.
I think I'll give him an opening, too. Pssst -- my wife and I are voting for McCain if Obama gets the nomination.
I'll be back in a few to check if you bit.
